First of all thank you to those parents and supporters who helped with lifts in our FA Youth Cup venture.

We started reasonably well without ever looking threatening against a bigger stronger side made up of mainly final year players as opposed to our mixture of 16/17/18 year olds and this eventually made a big difference. Despite no lack of desire we weren't able to physically compete in vital areas and both their full backs stopped our wide men getting into good areas.

Despite playing on the back foot it was poor passes from individual players that resulted in their first half goals. In between that Tafara Dube slipped his direct opponent to earn a penalty which Will Robertson tucked away confidently. Bailey Marshall-Roberts then made a great save to keep us in the game.

Arguably from a defensive point of view there is no such thing as a good goal and we proved that by missing a tackle out wide, not stopping the cross and not getting near their forward . The 4th followed a foul caused by poor positioning but was an excellent strike ,the 5th again players not getting close enough to prevent the strike. The ball hit the crossbar and defenders stood around admiring the night sky while they followed in to make the score a potentially very damaging 5-1 with 20 mins to go.

2 subs on 55 mins and the 3rd on 65 mins and to some extent the scoreline resulted in exactly the response that was required. The impetus provided changed the game and 2 goals by Jude Guest-Brainch and Charlie Hine ( on his 18th Birthday) from excellent Alex Mitchell deliveries narrowed the score . A 4th should have followed but the forward concerned was on the back foot and the last 20 mins proved we can play at the required standard and made the journey home slightly less painful.

We start our League programme away at Leverstock Green on Thur 09/09.
Hopefully see you there.
