FC recorded a fine win in this League Cup tie at the SRD Stadium.

Report by Jools Thomas

The 2nd half performance in particular was of great quality and will certainly give the club confidence going into the busy festive period.

The Management team again shuffled the pack. With Jamie West, Ben Bateman, Andre Olukanmi and Kai Walters all injured, dual signing from Gloucester City Frankie Baigent came into midfield. Joe Fitzgerald slotted in at right back and Robert Tomlin, on this christmas return to the UK, also slotted into the midfield.

The opening period of the game wasn't the most intense period of football ever witnessed and it was therefore disappointing for FC to fall behind with the first chance of note as Micky Hyem squeezed the ball under Moles' keeper Kyle Forster from the edge of the box. This lead could have been doubled only a few minutes later and it was only a smart Forster save from a Sam Mulready snapshot which prevented this.

FC had their first attack on 17 minutes when Ty Deacon challenged away keeper Alex Archer only to see his shot squirm away for a corner. Ty could very well have had a penalty soon afterwards. What appeared to be a stonewall penalty, when Archer brought down the FC striker, was judged to be a dive with a card being produced for simulation. Deacon was at the heart of the action yet again, and with his next chance he slammed the ball wide with many in the ground thinking he had scored at the far post. Frankie Baigent had FC's next chance hitting an effort just wide as the home team really started to threaten.

The equaliser arrived on the 45-minute mark. A low shot could only be parried by Archer into the path of the dangerous Deacon and the youngster had an easy job slotting the ball home. That lead lasted for all of a minute when in 1st half injury time, Declan Rogers hot a long range shot that skimmed past Forster into the corner of the net for 2-1.

On 54 minutes FC gained the equaliser that their overall play deserved. Dan McAteer swept in a cross of real class and captain Ben Stevens glanced home an unstoppable header from all of 5 yards. 2-2 very quickly become 3-2. Rob Tomlin, on his return to FC from playing college football in the US, played a square ball to Josh Bamford and the target man cracked home a goal that had both power and precision.

Declan Rogers again tried to respond but this time Forster saved with his feet. Bamford then attempted to add to his tally but produced a tame shot that caused the keeper few issues. Rogers hit a hot against the outside of the post as the minutes clicked down before Town's Peter Clark placed an effort just wide of the upright.

The final chance of the game fell to Ty Deacon. After being played in by a cheeky Dave Carty pass, Deacon hit his shot powerfully but straight at the keeper however the three goals were enough for FC to celebrate a morale boosting victory and in a small way, revenge for that 9-2 St Neots defeat all those years ago.
