Leverstock Green 0-2 AVDFC

Team: Dan McAteer; Alex Mitchell, Will Mullarkey, Jack Hodgins, Terry Griffiths; Dave Brown, Alfi Touceda, Jake Baldwin, Callum Shortt; Chris Stapleton, Brian Haule

Subs: Marley Hamilton, Montel Brown, Roy Byron, Luke Nugent, Gabby Adewolo

With The Dynamos unbeaten in six league games going into this match the team were on a high and raring to go. Dan McAteer was in goal and Jack Hodgins was back in the line up to face a decent Leverstock team. The 4th minute saw the first half chance as Brian Haule collected Alfi Touceda’s pass and played in Chris Stapelton, however, his shot was well blocked. A few minutes later, Alfi Touceda sent a ball out to Jake Baldwin on the left wing and his cross was just too long for Brian Haule.

It was Alfi Touceda again pulling the strings as another pass into Chris Stapleton and he took a touch and hit a shot wide of the mark.
Both teams were not making the most of opportunities and the match was not a great spectacle to watch. Will Mullarkey made a great interception before quarter of an hour was up and his clearance fell to Chris Stapleton who controlled well and hit a lovely pass to Alfi Touceda but he lost his footing at the vital moment.

20 minutes in and a good interchange between Alex Mitchell and Dave Brown, sees Brown race away down the right and cross in to Chris Stapleton who heads on target, but keeper saved well. Leverstock had their first real sighter of goal in the 23rd minute as their striker hit a shot just wide of Dan McAteers goal. On the half hour mark Leverstock were gaining possession and moving forward well. They had another chance, this time on target, but Dan McAteer was equal to it making a good save.

37 minutes and Will Mullarkey moved forward and combined with Jack Hodgins who also moved up the pitch. Hodgins played a ball through to Jake Baldwin but he had strayed offside, much to his annoyance. With half time less than 5 minutes away, the away side got the breakthrough. A free kick on the half way line was sent into the box by Terry Griffiths, Chris Stapleton rose the highest and headed on where Brian Haule was lurking. He took a touch and smashed the ball past the keeper. 0-1 Dynamos.

The Dynamos created one more chance before the half time whistle. Brian Haule won the ball and spread it out wide where Callum Shortt beat his man and swung in a cross for Jake Baldwin, but he headed over the bar.

Half time: Leverstock Green 0-1 AVDFC

The first action of the second half saw Chris Stapleton taken down and clearly had stud marks on his stomach, but the referee was not interested. Alex Mitchell was having another decent game and he played a great ball down the line finding Jake Baldwin and he skipped past his marker and sent a cross in where Chris Stapleton was there but headed over the bar. 53 minutes and Chris Stapleton took one of his trademark long throws into Terry Griffiths, Leverstock cleared only to Dave Brown who controlled and hit a shot which the keeper clawed away.

The vital second goal was on 56 minutes. Callum Shortt won the ball and played it back to Alex Mitchell on the right hand side, he swung a great cross which fell to Jake Baldwin and he happily accepted the invitation to shoot and score a great goal. 0-2 Dynamos.
62 minutes a scare for Dynamos. Leverstock avoided the offside trap and managed to squeeze a shot past Dan McAteer but the ball struck the post and Jack Hodgins cleared the ball. Lucky escape. Dave Brown then went straight down the other end, collected Alfi Touceda’s pass and hit a looping shot, over the keeper, but over the bar.

71 minutes and major controversy…!! Jake Baldwin collected a Chris Stapleton knock down, and raced through on goal. Just as he was going to shoot, the Leverstock defender fouled him on the edge of the box. Referee gives a free kick and as he was the last defender and Jake Baldwin was through, the ONLY option was to send the defender off…wait…referee doesn’t give a red…doesn’t give a yellow….!?!? If the referee gives the foul, then he has to send him off….terrible refereeing decision. Jack Baldwin hit the free kick at the wall and Leverstock cleared.

10 minutes later and Dave Brown wins a great tackle in the middle and steers the ball to Alfi Touceda. He beats 2 players and hits his shot too close to the keeper who saves well. New signing, Marley Hamilton came on for his debut, replacing Chris Stapleton who was clearly still suffering from a few tackles. Five minutes later Montel Brown replaced Jake Baldwin. The referee had now lost control of the match and gave Leverstock a free kick, which he should have played on. Alex Mitchell didn’t hear the whistle and was back defending as 2 x Leverstock players took exception and threw him off the ball. Both teams grabbed their handbags and raced into the corner. Eventually Leverstock had their free kick which Will Mullarkey happily smashed clear.

The last action of the match saw some good feet from Marley Hamilton finding Montel Brown on the left, he cut in and curled an effort inches over the bar.

Final score: Leverstock 0-2 AVDFC
