Aylesbury played only their second game in 2014 as they travelled to a blustery Garden Walk. This was never going to be a classic and the stormy weather of the previous few weeks continued with both a strong wind at at times hail and lightening.
Aylesbury were without the injured Connor Baker and with Sean Sonner and Jerome Anderson unavailable and a bench of walking wounded on the bench this was always going to be an uphill battle againts a Royston team challenging for a play off position.
Royston adapted much better to the conditions in the first half with the lively front three casuing Aylesbury problems at the back. The first real chance produced Rosyston's opening goal. Reece Dobson was fouled on the edge of the 18 yard box in the 15th Minute and Joe De La Salle gave Moles Keeper James Weatherill no chance with a bullet of a free kick that frankly nobody could have stopped, 1-0 Royston. For the rest of the first half Aylesbury were pinned back in their own half and Royston had a number of half chances for both De La Salle and Hammond but the half finished with The Moles just one behind.
Aylesbury rolled up their sleeves and in the second half could have been in the lead after ten minutes with good chances from Gareth Price and Sonny French but as has been the issue for most of the season Aylesbury failed to take their chances. Royston too had opportunities to extend their lead through Endacott and the ever dangerous De La Salle but it was a much more even second half. However after seventy minutes the game was killed off by Royston as a defensive error left De La Salle with an easy tap in from two yards to end any hope that The Moles had.
