Report by Jools Thomas
FC’s poor run of form continued as Slough Town brushed aside the Moles without too much effort therefore keeping the Rebels’ slim play-off hopes alive. As at Chalfont, it was crossed balls from the right hand side that did the damage to the team.
The game was only 10 minutes old when the first goal was scored with Ed Smith stroking the ball home from a right wing cross. Two minutes later and Smith showed his hunger just losing out in a one on one with keeper Richard Roberts who was deputising for the absent Simeon Charles. Smith had his third opportunity in the space of just a few minutes soon afterwards as his low drive was blocked by the diving Roberts. On 20 minutes FC scored their first goal from open play in over three games. A lofted Kevin Ayodele ball was met by Sonny French who headed the ball over a despairing Jamie Jackson and into an empty net. It was a rare moment of quality on a miserable evening for FC. Slough's lead was regained when on 38 minutes another cross was played in from the right hand side and although the initial strike was blocked, Ryan O’Toole scored from the rebound. Four minutes later and a corner was met at the back post by Adam Martin whose powerful header beat both keeper and defender to give the visitors a deserved 3-1 lead at the break.
Slough started the 2nd half in the same mood as they finished the 1st with Ed Smith striking a powerful shot just over the bar. Smith then completed his hat-trick with another easy tap in as Aylesbury conceded from a low right wing cross for the 3rd time. Joe Chandiram attempted to increase Slough’s lead a few minutes later but blasted the ball over. Sonny French provided one of the few sparks of excitement on 55 minutes when his mazy run ended with a powerful shot that Jackson did well to parry. At the other end Jake Parsons had another shot for Slough but again fired over. By this time Slough had taken their foot off the gas and it at least allowed Aylesbury to have a bit of a go at the visitors’ goal. Kwasi Frempong saw an effort go round the post from a Luke Abraham cross and this effort was followed by efforts from Davis Haule and Lynton Goss, both of which cleared the bar.
With three consecutive home games at the Affinity Investments Stadium within the next few days, FC will have to defend with much more conviction and provide much better service to the strikers if the season is not to end on a negative note.
