FC got back to winning ways in this one sided victory at a bitterly cold Affinity Investments Stadium. The groundstaff had done yet another magnificent job on the pitch and this gave the team to opportunity to deliver a showcase of goals to their fans.
The 1st opportunity occurred on seven minutes. FC’s Stuart Bryant fired a quick shot towards goal but it hit the post before being cleared. A few seconds later Kevin Ayodele could count himself unlucky with a header from a corner that just flashed past the post. Woodford showed their attacking credentials just a short time later and Ben Chambers’ shot just cleared the bar when perhaps a little composure was required. Manager Craig Faulconbridge could have given FC the lead on 10 minutes but his header went just the wrong side of the post. United’s Jack Bailey was the next man to attempt to break the deadlock after he had ducked and weaved into a good position however his shot was weak . The opening goal arrived just before the mid-point of the first half. Stuart Bryant saw a chink of light and crashed a 20 yard drive into the top corner for what was to be the goal of the night. One soon became two. A series of one-twos between Brian Haule and Sonny French saw Sonny dink the ball into the corner past the despairing Woodford keeper Daniel Frayne. Further chances occurred for Brian Haule, Lamar Simpson and Davis Haule to increase the score-line but without luck.
Two minutes into the second half and the score was increased. A Max Farrelly cross was met by Luke Abraham who controlled the ball well to neatly pop the ball past the keeper and into an empty net. Lamar Simpson was the next man on the score sheet on 51 minutes, his control and chip over the keeper making the score 4-0. FC’s 5th on 57 minutes may have lacked the finesse of earlier goals but Lamar was not complaining as he bundled the ball in at the back post after good work on the right. Brian Haule grabbed the next goal as FC ran riot creating all sorts of problems for the beleaguered Woodford defence. He danced into the box and after miscuing his shot, received a 2nd opportunity from which he made no mistake firing in low from close range. There were still more chances for FC to increase their lead. Brian Haule powered a header straight at the keeper on 63 minutes and 7 minutes later he headed the ball against the bar from a similar position. Woodford broke away in a rare foray into the FC Box with captain Ben Oddy being unlucky with a flicked header which just cleared the bar. The final goal of the evening came on 83 minutes. Again it was work down the right hand side that brought joy for Aylesbury. Waiting to receive a cross was Brian Haule who gratefully pounced from close range to complete the victory.
FC keeper Simeon Charles had had a quiet night and not wanting to be left out, he went walkabout in the final minute attempting to clear the ball. The Woodford forwards tried to seize their chance but lack of composure and rapid responses from FC defenders ensured a clean sheet was kept as the ref blew the final whistle.
