Even Aylesbury FC’s most loyal fan, Haywood Mole, could not have argued if both teams had shared the points in this competitive and at times bad tempered fixture at the Affinity Investment Stadium. As it was, our mascot was able to celebrate a win and see the team grab a 2nd victory in five days.

With just three minutes of the game played, FC could have taken the lead. New signing Bradley Quamina laid the ball to Brian Haule whose nodded header was saved by SYCOB’s Sam Southerden. Almost immediately Beaconsfield replied with an attempt of their own with Lee Barney flashing a shot just past the post. Sonny French was the next to try to open the scoring with a long range shot that didn’t cause the keeper too much grief. Lee Barney had another chance as things went from one end to the other. His quick fire shot was punched clear by FC keeper Simeon Charles. Midway through the 1st half and Stuart Bryant’s free kick just cleared the keeper’s left hand post. Ex-Mole Ryan Blake made a decent run on 26 minutes but his sweet cross was not met by any of his on rushing team mates. Again the next opportunity swung to the opposition box. Sonny French found space and his snap shot just cleared the SYCOB bar. Very soon after this, FC took the lead. A corner drew Sam Southerden from his goal. Once a swift pass was played across the penalty area, the keeper was left stranded and the impressive Kevin Ayodele stroked the ball home for 1-0. That lead lasted approximately two minutes. A corner was met at the far post by Beaconsfield captain Yiadoh Yeboah who headed the ball past Charles. An attack down the right just on half time resulted in the winning goal. Lamar Simpson played the ball into the box and was brought down whilst looking to cross. Brian Haule hit the spot kick almost down the centre with the keeper being sent the wrong way.

The second half started with FC on the offensive. Two blocked efforts on goal saw the ball fall to Stuart Bryant who skyed the ball over the bar. Beaconsfield soon began to apply pressure however. A one on one with the keeper was soon followed by a melee in the box resulting in a shot from Yashwa Romeo which Charles gathered safely. Another good chance occurred for the away team on 55 minutes as Ryan Blake just missed out on a wicked cross. On 62 minutes SYCOB had their best chance of the half. Luke Abraham was robbed and Ryan Blake stabbed the ball past Charles only to see it rebound off the post and away to safety. Further pressure was exerted on the FC goal. A spell of head tennis saw the ball drop to Nathan Poulton who attempted a bicycle kick which didn’t have the power to trouble the FC defence. As the clock ticked down Lamar Simpson received his marching orders for dissent and this meant a reshuffle including the welcome introduction of club captain Ben Stevens to the action on 86 minutes. What should have been four minutes of action for Ben turned into eleven minutes as the referee deemed to add seven extra minutes time. Although the FC goal was under siege for much of this period, including a goal line scramble which seemed to involve seven or eight men, Beaconsfield failed to take advantage and at the final whistle, the Moles were able to celebrate three hard fought for points.
