All in all this can be described as a very bad day at the office. Nothing appeared to go right for FC in this clash at the Affinity Investment Stadium. Fleet, fast becoming a bogey team, fully deserved their win and for FC it’s a case of forget it and move on.
The first couple of chances fell to Fleet but it was in fact first blood to FC. Brian Haule had his ankle clipped inside the box and a penalty was awarded. Brian took the kick sending the ball down the middle for the lead and truth is that was as good as it got it for the afternoon. It was soon after that Fleet grabbed the equaliser. The away attack jostled for a view of FC keeper Simeon Charles’ goal. Ben White saw an opening and cooley lifted the ball into the top left hand corner over the despairing keeper. Fleet’s Craig Davis was unfortunate not to connect with a low cross a few minutes later as Fleet took control of the game. FC stemmed this flow of pressure when they were awarded another penalty. Brian Haule was fouled by the keeper. Brian appeared to slip as he connected with the ball and his shot hit the post and away from harm’s way. Unbelievably a third penalty was awarded on 25 minutes. Kwasi Frempong committed a handball offence and Fleet’s Craig Davis gave his side the lead. Just before half time Danilo Cadete could have increased the score still further but Charles’ used every bit of his height to tip the ball over the bar.
Five minutes into the second half, Fleet continued to pressure with Jack White turning and snapping in a shot that Charles did well to parry. The 4th penalty of the game was awarded to Fleet on 57 minutes. Kwasi Frempong arguing the decision was then given a 2nd yellow. Fleet scored but the penalty was ordered to be retaken for an infringement. Craig Davis made no mistake second time sending the keeper the wrong way and for all intents and purposes, the game was over with over half an hour still to play. Aylesbury however did make more of a game of it as Fleet preferred to sit back and try and hit their opponents on the break. Luke Abraham hit a shot that just cleared the post and Davis Haule hit a fierce dipping drive which the keeper could only fumble. It was thanks to Fleet’s breakaway tactics that their 4th goal arrived with some quarter of an hour to play. Good work on the right saw the ball played into the middle where substitute Mark Watkins only had to stroke the ball past the keeper. With ten minutes left to play, James Faulkner was involved in an off the ball incident and was shown a yellow card to one he had received earlier to reduce FC even further to 9 men.
