The dull opening to this game at the Affinity Investments Stadium gave little indication of the action to follow in this Southern League game. Ninety four minutes later and the crowd could finally gain their breath in a game with great goals, enthralling entertainment and a result which was only really assured deep into injury time.

FC opened the scoring through the hard working Sonny French whose shot took a deflection to wrong foot Uxbridge keeper Matt Elston Bull. One nil soon became two. A free kick into the box from the left was met by a leaping Brian Haule whose powerful header flew neatly into the bottom corner. In reply Uxbridge had a golden chance on 32 minutes to gain some parity but Rob Fitzgerald, positioned just yards from goal, blazed over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

After the break there were a couple of half chances from neatly delivered crosses for the away team before Uxbridge finally pulled a goal back. FC Player Manager Craig Faulconbridge was adjudged to have committed an offence in the box and from the resultant spot kick Craig Moore slid the ball calmly under FC keeper Simeon Charles. This could have spelt danger for FC but the home team’s two goal lead was soon restored. Wayne O’Sullivan broke clear and although Matt Elton Bull, rushing out to narrow the angle, smothered the first shot, the ball fell to Brian Haule who rifled a shot into an empty net. Still Uxbridge would not lie down and continued to pressure. A break away attack fell to away substitute Nicke Kabamba who slid the ball into the bottom corner after a defensive mistake by Charles. Backs were to the wall as the visitors searched for an equaliser few would have begrudged them. However it was FC that grabbed the next goal. Jonathan Constant on 91 minutes beat the offside trap and his cool finish finally put the game to rest. Constant was not finished however and he repeated his efforts of a minute earlier with an almost identical left sided run on goal, this time electing to finish to the keeper’s right much to the delight of the FC faithful.
