Fleet Town 1 Aylesbury FC 0

Mike Farquharson6 Jan 2013 - 07:50

The Moles crash to their second defeat in a week as they came away from Fleet without a point although perhaps deserving more.

By Jools Thomas

FC fans left Fleet Town wondering just what had gone wrong with the afternoon and just how they had not managed to gain something from this game. Perhaps it is easy to blame others for FC’s failure but the truth is the team didn’t take advantage of three of four golden opportunities to score and their style of play, particularly in the 2nd half, played right in the hands of their hosts.
FC played uphill in the first half and indeed started brightly. James Faulkner had an early chance when, after being put through by Wayne O’Sullivan, he attempted to lob the keeper only to see his shot graze the bar. Another golden opportunity arose a few minutes later. A melee in the box saw a dinked cross played once again to Faulkner. His header beat home keeper Brannon Daly only to be cleared by a Fleet teammate on the line. Mark Watkins for the opposition attempted to redress the balance on 15 minutes but his shot sailed harmlessly over. Soon afterwards Fleet took the lead. A whipped free kick found ex-Mole Danilson Vincente who stabbed the ball home at close range. Ben White almost made it two for Fleet soon after. A showboating turn on the edge of the box outfoxed the FC defence and the resultant strike only just cleared the bar.
FC had not played too badly in the 1st half and confidence was high that the team could get something from the game especially playing down the pronounced slope at Calthorpe Park and with energetic runs into space from the lively Lamar Simpson providing options. On 52 minutes FC had their first and best chance of the half to equalise. Wayne O’Sullivan took a free kick right on the edge of the penalty box. His effort cleared the wall but also the post and the chance came to nothing. There then followed a series of excellent FC crosses FC by Faulkner but with no target man in the box the chances came to nothing. On 68 minutes O’Sullivan had a half chance to grab a goal. He avoided one tackle in the box and fired in an effort only for the keeper to save with his legs. Fleet had a rare chance soon afterwards. A breakaway attack saw the ball lofted to the far post and dangerman Ben White almost grabbed a second heading just wide with FC’s Simeon Charles rooted to his line. Seven minutes from time Jonathan Constant had perhaps the last real chance of the game to get a goal. His long range effort dipped in front of the keeper and was palmed away to safety.

Line Up Simeon Charles, Lamar Simpson, Luke Abraham, Davis Haule, Ben Stevens, Ronayne Marsh-Brown, Jamie Connor, Sonny French, James Faulkner, Wayne O'Sullivan, Brian Haule.

Subs Kurt Morlese, Craig Faulconbridge, Kwasi Frempong, Max Farrelly, Jonathan Constant.
