Moles canter to League win against AFC Hayes

Aylesbury FC 6-2 AFC Hayes

Report by Jools Thomas

Few at the Affinity Investments Stadium had an idea of what was to unfold as Hayes doubled their lead on 33 minutes leaving FC looking dead and buried. The final result however was testimony to hard work and, dare I say, a little of the Barcelona football promised by boss Faulconbridge.
The early exchanges saw AFC Hayes take control and it was no surprise when they took the lead on 21 minutes. Hayes’ Tony Mendy rounded Simeon Charles and passed the ball into empty net. Aban Majeed soon followed this with a spectacular long range shot from and it looked like curtains for FC. Sonny French did pull a goal back on 36 minutes with a low strike to give hope for the 2nd period however few FC fans were to realise the significance of this strike.
At the very start of the second half, the fight back was to continue with Craig Faulconbridge heading home from a corner after Brian Haule had been very unlucky with a similar chance just a few seconds earlier. From then on FC sensed a real chance of victory. Sonny French could count himself unlucky not to give his side the lead with a stooping header before a handball in the box gave FC a penalty with James Faulkner making no mistake from the spot kick to make the score 3-2. Faulkner soon increased FC’s lead when he ran onto a ball over the top. Away keeper Ben Goode misjudged his control and the ball fell to James who stroked it into an empty net. Still the scoring had not been concluded. Substitute Curtis Morlese then made a run into the Hayes box before being brought down for a stone wall penalty. Faulkner had left the field by this time but Brian Haule proved a worthy deputy stroking the ball home for five. The sixth goal almost on the final whistle was the pick of the FC goals. A pinpoint Sonny French pass found the energetic Jamie Connor who stabbed the ball home with a deft flick from the outside of the boot.
The team left the field with deserved applause ringing in their ears. First half hour aside, this was a complete victory against a team who have had a very bright opening to the season. All in all a great way for Aylesbury FC to celebrate Non-League Day.

Line Up Simeone Charles, George Tomlin, Luke Abraham, Kwasi Frempong, Craig Faulconbridge, Ronayne Marsh-Brown, Jamie Connor, Sonny French, Brian Haule, Wayne O'Sullivan, James Faulkner.

Subs Jonathan Constant, Curtis Morlese, Alex Collard, Charlie Abrahams.

Entertainment 5/5, Star Man: James Faulkner Aylesbury FC
