Dynamos lose out to the Jets

Oxhey Jets 4-2 AVDFC

As Storm Ciara got closer, the Dynamos made the short trip to Oxhey on the back of a 1-1 draw with Broadfields.

Phil Granville made 4 changes to the starting line-up as he searches for his best starting 11. Ben Stevens was unavailable, so Ben Gill started in the heart of defence. Dan Wilson, Jake Baldwin and Abu Khan were all on the bench meaning that there were starts for Derek Feyi, Roy Byron and Lewis Merriden.

In the second minute Alfie Gaspar was penalised for a high foot and given a Yellow Card for the challenge. Oxhey Jets were the first to register a shot but it went harmlessly wide of the near post. A few minutes later James Weatherill came out of his goal but was beaten to the ball but with the open goal there, Ben Gill managed to deflect the shot for a corner.

Oxhey were on top in the early stages and more defending, this time from Ollie Leach, thwarted another attack.
It was 16 minutes in before Dynamos had a chance, a corner from Bruno Brito was partially cleared to Harry Scott and he swung in cross which Derek Feyi controlled but was called offside. Lewis Merriden was fouled on 18 minutes and Bruno Brito hit a 30 yard rocket but straight into the wall. Dynamos were struggling to get going. A few minutes later Ollie Leach was the creator as he played a lovely ball over the top for Joseph Fitzgerald to run onto but he had strayed offside.

The breakthrough came against the run of play. Bruno Brito swung in the ball to the near post and the fearless Derek Feyi was there to head home. 1-0 Dynamos. Oxhey Jets were back in possession and a solid stop from James Weatherill kept the score at 1-0. With 10 minutes left Dan McAteer’s pass back wasn’t strong enough and the Oxhey striker nipped in and won the ball, again with an open goal he hit his shot but Ollie Leach was back in time to block the shot and clear his lines.

Then Oxhey had 4 minutes of pressure and scored 2 goals. Firstly a good move saw a rocket of a shot beat James Weatherill from 10 yards out. 4 minutes later Dynamos failed to clear the ball and a cross saw a player unmarked to beat James from a couple of yards. 2-1 Oxhey.
Just as the first half was coming to a close, Roy Byron, who was having a great game, played in Alfie Gaspar and he was taken down for a blatant penalty. Harry Scott stepped up and wrong-footed the keeper to make it 2-2 at halftime.

As in previous matches, Dynamos came out stronger in the second half. Less than a minute and Harry Scott played the ball to Bruno Brito but his shot was saved. Ollie Leach then found some room and moved forward, he played the ball over the top to Bruno Brito again, he appeared to be bundled over, but no penalty awarded this time. Bruno then had a one on one with the keeper but again it was well saved.
58 minutes and some good work from Harry Scott on the right wing enabled him to cross and Roy Byron had sneaked in unmarked but his header was saved. So close to his first goal of the season. The resulting corner was taken quick to Harry Scott and his cross was headed just over by Derek Feyi. It was all Dynamos as they searched for a goal.

There was an air of inevitability when Oxhey next attacked. Ben Gill made the challenge and the Oxhey players all appealed…and got a penalty. They converted the spot kick and make the task even harder, Ben Gill was sin binned for his protests.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, Harry Scott squeezed the ball through to Alfie Gaspar, but his shot was saved. This was the last involvement for both players as they made way for Abu Khan and Jake Baldwin to come in.

With Dynamos now deploying 3 up front to get the goal, Oxhey were getting more possession, but Dynamos looked good on the counter.
85 minutes and Derek Feyi slices his clearance and it whistles inches past his own goal.89 minutes and Roy Byron battled well to win the ball and play it out to Bruno Brito, he beat his man and sent in a cross which found Abu Khan unmarked in front of goal. His header was just too close to the keeper who saved it. Dynamos deserved an equaliser…!

Less than a minute later and Jake Baldwin found space on the left and swung in a cross which looped over everyone and the keeper just got his hand to it to stop it going straight in. The killer blow came in the 4th minute of added time as Oxhey went down the other end and scored to make the final scoreline -
Oxhey Jets 4-2 AVDFC.
