FC's unbeaten run comes to an end in Kempston

Aylesbury FC were on a 5 match unbeaten run and Paul Toms was in determined mood to make it 6 as the sun came out at Hillgrounds, home of next opponents, Kempston Rovers. They were also on a high after beating local rivals Bedford Town last week. Paul made just one forced change with Ben Stevens unavailable and Ken Feyi coming in to start up top.

The match started and although Kempston had the majority of the ball, it was AFC who had the first chance. Ryan Young was looking bright and showed some silky skills to burst down the right and hit a cross which just eluded Ken Feyi. With 15 minutes gone, it was Sam Odusoga who won the ball and again played in Ryan Young. He turned his man and squared the ball to Lewis Merriden and his shot whistled over the bar.

A couple of minutes later and Kempston had their first meaningful attack when Ben Shepherd set up Izale McLeod but Nick Bennion was equal to it with a smart save. However the next move saw Shane Bush play a ball over the AFC defence for Izale McLeod and he hit a delightful lob over Nick Bennion as he raced from his goal. 1-0 Kempston.

Ryan Young was having a tough match as another foul on him sees him crumpled on the floor. A breather for AFC players as they re-group but Ryan Young looks in pain. 37 minutes on the clock and Hayden Clack makes a quality tackle but came of worst as he is substituted for Jordan Gilbert. Kempston Captain, Shane Bush, became the first, and only, name in the book just before half time with a mis-timed tackle on Lewis Merriden in the centre of the field.

The first half came to an end with another decent save from Nick Bennion to keep the score 1-0 Kempston at half time.

Kempston came out quicker in the second half and were straight on the attack. Shane Bush was causing AFC issues and his determination to win the ball saw him deflect a shot from Wright, past Nick Bennion and into the goal. 2-0 Kempston. Kempston were now full of confidence and passing the ball around nicely. AFC were struggling to hold onto the ball. Jordan Jenkins and Craig Carby were winning the majority of defensive battles but the ball kept coming back.

55 minutes and Izale McLeod burst through but this time Sam Odusoga came steaming in to won the ball with an excellent tackle. Kempston were in control and another shot from them went inches over the bar. At the other end a rare opportunity for Ty Deacon to move forward saw him play a one-two with Ryan Young, but he couldn’t beat the last defender. 67 minutes and the pressure told, Shane Bush chased a ball through but some hesitance in the AFC defence meant he managed to get a shot away. Nick Bennion got his hands to it, but it trickled over the line. 3-0 Kempston.

Ryan Young was subbed straight after the goal with evergreen Davis Haule his replacement. AFC rallied for a 10 minute period with Davis Haule looking to motivate the group and getting straight in winning the ball and playing a lovely ball to Ty Deacon. He managed to get in a cross and Ken Feyi’s shot was blocked. A foul on Lewis Merriden gave AFC the opportunity to fill the box. Bruno Brito, who had a quiet match, swung in the free kick and Jordan Jenkins won the header but AFC couldn’t connect with the ball as Kempston cleared their lines.

The final minutes saw both teams seemingly settle for the 3-0 final score. A tough match for AFC but Man of the Match, Sam Odusoga, was in great form and kept going until the final whistle.
