Moles Undefeated in Five as Dunstable are Dispatched

After three wins and a draw from the last four games Aylesbury went into this game with great confidence, as they faced a Dunstable side who have slipped down the table in recent weeks and now sit just outside the relegation zone. With Davis and Brian Haule both suspended Sam Odusga slotted in at right back with Ben Stevens moving back into his new midfield role. Nick Bennion was injured in the warm up but the club have a very able deputy in Josh Thompson and so the ex Ampthill stopper came into the starting XI at the last minute.

The wind had been increasing all through the morning so the players were greeted with horrendous conditions as they arrived at Haywood Way in what was not going to be an easy day for either side. Aylesbury won the toss and probably correctly decided to play the first half with the wind and were very quickly out of the blocks, Bruno Brito had an early shot trying to take advantage of the conditions but the ball flew over the bar. Man of the match Ryan Young who was to give the away defenders a very busy afternoon then got to the bye line, put in an excellent ball across the face of the goal but the ball just evaded the advancing Brito.

The first real chance came on nine minutes when Ben Stevens found himself in an attacking position on the right hand side of the penalty box, he released Young again into the box and his low cross was met by Ty Deacon some ten yards out but the striker could only turn the ball just over the bar.

On twelve minutes a cross field ball from Ben Stevens found Ryan Young in space, the winger cut inside the left back but his left foot shot was partially parried by the defender and flew into the keepers arms.

As the half continued, the wind was having more and more effect on the game, a goal kick from Connor Coulson in the away goal caught on the wind and almost went backwards for a corner kick, ending up with a throw in to FC right by the corenr flag. The first goal, which looked like it had been coming since the first minute eventually did come on thirty one, a ball into Ryan Young found the young striker, he cut inside the defence and slotted past the keeper for a deserved lead. Goal number two came just a minute later when Ty Deacon flicked home a cross from Ben Stevens on the right.

Two minutes later though and the away side had pulled one back, on a rare Dunstable attack a ball across the box fell to James Lauder and he fired home from eight yards.

The two goal lead was almost restored when Ty Deacon's powerful shot cannoned back off the right hand post, three minutes later though and it was. Deacon himself was played in and the striker approaching the box and with just one defender to beat spotted Lewis Merridan fast approaching on his left and slipped in the midfielder who finished calmly past Coulson.

HT Aylesbury FC 3 Dunstable Town 1

This was always going to be a game of two halves in the horrendous conditions and so that was to be proved. With the home side now battling against the conditions it was Dunstable in the ascendancy and within two minutes they had pulled a goal ack when Jordan Jenkins was adjudged to have fouled a striker in the box and Chris Wreh dispatched the penalty past Thompson.

The rest of the half was spent with FC defending on the edge of their box but with Dunstable unable to unlock it and really trouble Josh Thompson. There were a couple of FC breakaways, Young was put through but the bobbling pitch and wind sent him wide and eventually the promising chance came to nothing, Lewis Merridan then had an opportunity late on to feed in substitute Ken Feyi but the chance came to nothing. Aylesbury held firm and the referees whistle went to bring an end to the game and another victory for The Moles
