With both Kidlington and North Leigh losing it was an excellent afternoon for FC as they collected a point against play off chasing Coleshill Town.
Daniel Carr played his first full game replacing Sam Odusoga who moved into midfield. With Samuel Johnson-Fikula returning to Oxford it was Luke Cray who partnered Jordan Jenkins in the middle of the defence and Brian Haule led the attack with Harry Scott starting his first full game since returning from Thame United.
On a heavy Haywood Way pitch both sides started the game feeling each other out and with any actione confined to the middle of the pitch. It was FC who had the first chance from Martin Griggs after seventeen minutes, Samuel Odusoga dummied the ball, it ran to Griggs who struck a low curling effort which was gathered by Hathaway in the away goal. Coleshill immediately had an opportunity from a corner which found Joseph Halsall rising highest at the back post but his header flew just wide of the far post.
Aylesbury's goal came on thirty two minutes, Brian Haule found man of the match Daniel Carr on the right and his pinpoint cross found Carl Tappin who headed home across the keeper from close range for a deserved lead. Coleshill should have equalised five minutes later when the ball broke kindly to Connor Doyle in the FC area after a cross deflected off of Odusoga - he had all the time in the world to pick his spot, but curled it wide of Nick Bennion's far post.
Half Time Aylesbury FC 1 Coleshill Town 0
If FC had dominated play in the first half it was the away side who were to carry the fight to Aylesbury in the second. Five minutes in and Stuart Hendrie broke through the FC defence and hit a driven effort towards the front post. Bennion in the home goal was equal to it and parried the ball out of danger.
On sixty six minutes Aylesbury had a great chance to extend their lead when a great ball from Odusoga threaded in Harry Scott who powered past two defenders before striking a shot into the hands of Hathaway. A minute later and the visitors were level, they broke quickly down the right hand side, the ball found its way to Joseph Smith in space at the edge of the box and the midfielder smashed one into the top corner giving Bennion no chance.
In a game of few clear chances it was Aylesbury who were to have one more opportunity to take the three points when a superb delivery from Harry Scott found Jordan Jenkins at the back post, but the centre half couldn't connect cleanly and the chance was gone.
All in all this was a good point gained against a side looking to get into the play offs and a performance which will give the side confidence going into the "El Quackico" derby against Aylesbury United on New Years Day.
