The Moles had only found the net twice in four games, conceding 14 in the process. However, the Moles would have been confident that the points were there for the taking, with the hosts last league victory coming in October.

Manager Paul Bonham again made changes, with youngster William Oliver-Twidale replacing the unavailable Nick Bennion between the sticks and Aylesbury FC legend Davis Haule made his return to central midfield after signing from Harefield United earlier in the week.
The Moles were quick out of the blocks and were almost a goal to the good inside a minute. A long ball from Carl Tappin was flicked on by Ty Deacon, Martin Griggs beat his defender to the deft knock-on with the resulting shot requiring a pair of safe hands from Yaxley stopper Ollie Sutton.

Despite good possession early on for the visitors, it was the hosts that should really have taken the lead. A deep corner found Liam Hook unmarked at the back post, whose headed effort was smothered by Twidale, the loose ball rebounded back to Hook, who blazed over the bar from mere yards.

This let off for the Moles led them to ramp up the tempo, and soon after they deservedly went in front. Ryan Young went on a powerful run from midfield, weaving in and out of defenders and powered into the box. He selflessly played in Ty Deacon who gave the goalkeeper the eyes and curled a delicious effort into the top left-hand corner of the goal for his second goal in four appearances.

The visitors had their tails up at this point, assisted by some sloppy play by the hosts all over the park, and soon doubled their lead. Again, instigated by Ryan Young – the winger’s corner towards the front post was flicked onto the back post by Martin Griggs, with Jordan Jenkins reacting ahead of his marker to put a commanding header into the roof of the net.

Yaxley had an opportunity to get a goal back on the stroke of half time, Tom Waumsley did well to cut inside of Luke Cray, and fizzed the ball towards the back post, but the debutant keeper Twidale pulled off a spectacular save tipping onto the crossbar and behind.

The impetus remained with the Moles in the second half – Jordan Jenkins again causing trouble for Yaxley in set piece situations. Another corner from Ryan Young was met by the lofty centre half, this time his headed effort clattered off the crossbar.

Just minutes later however, the Moles were rewarded for their hard work with their third goal of the afternoon. Ty Deacon intercepted a loose Yaxley pass in midfield, played a low ball into the channel for Ryan Young to chase, which the winger duly obliged, latching onto the ball, bearing down on goal, and calmly slotted the ball underneath the helpless Sutton.

Bonham made a series of substitutions soon after to try and protect the lead and clean sheet for the Moles, however the changes seemingly had the opposite effect. Yaxley finally found a foothold in the game, launching waves of attack on the Aylesbury FC goal. The back line held firm until the 78th minute where Waumsley broke free in the box to head in from close range.

Whilst the goal took the gloss off the Moles’ performance somewhat, it was too little to late for the hosts, whose misery was compiled by an injury time red card after Martin Griggs was dragged down just outside of the box as he went through on goal.
