Moles get their first home win in 2018

A goal from captain Luke Cray sent the home support into raptures as FC got their first home win in 364 days. After a week of turmoil and upset after Scott Reynold's departure last Saturday, the home side put on an assured and calm performance as they took all the points against third placed Peterborough Sports. With Aaron King, Josh Williams and Lewis Strafford all unavailable Paul Bonham made some subtle changes to the starting line up and style of play, with Temi Oladejo moving onto the left of the midfield, Bruno Brito on the right and Reece Bayliss playing in the number ten position.

Gone was the more direct style of play that the home fans had seen since the start of the season, replaced with a more pleasing on the eye passing style of football with the ball being kept on the surface and with the team playing out from the back and through the midfield. Martin Griggs was almost put through on just seven minutes when a Bennion clearance was misjudged by the away defender but Griggs couldn't quite latch onto the ball and the defender recovered to clear.

The first real chance came just a minute later when a ball from the left was floated into the FC penalty area but Lewis Webb's header was saved by Bennion diving to his left. Martin Griggs then had a long range effort which went wide before Temi Oladejo, outwitted Mitch Griffiths on the left and put in a cross which just evaded Bruno Brito in the box.

Steven Johnson-Fikula was putting on another assured performance alongside Jordan Jenkins and got Jenkins out of a bit of trouble as he slipped when trying to clear a ball but Johnson-Fikula was on hand to clear to safety. FC were never really in any major trouble as they retained and used the possession they had well, the ball was being moved around well as everyone wanted to get on the ball

Johnson-Fikula again showed what a good signing he is when he lost the ball just outside his penalty box, but turned and recovered taking the ball off of the away striker with an inch perfect tackle inside the box and away for a corner. The only goal of the game came on seventy seven minutes when a lovely move by FC down the left side ended with Martin Griggs crossing with his left foot, Johnson-Fikula flicked the ball on and it was met by the head of captain Luke Cray at the far post as he planted the ball into the net for the lead.

Peterborough were to have one opportunity to equalise when Nick Bennion came off his line to clear a cross, his excellent punch fell to a Peterborough striker some twenty yards out and his first time strike was excellently saved by Bennion and pushed away. The referee blew the whistle to signal FCs first win of the season and it was well deserved, all the players and management were clapped off the field by the very happy home support.

Next weekend we travel to Corby away in what will be another severe test for the new management team.
