With several new faces entering the side alongside some who stayed on, it would be a new test for many as they adapted as a squad. Ben Stevens moved back into his centre back role in the absence of the injured Jordan Jenkins, with newbie Rayon Haye at right back, Derek Feyi alongside Ben and Anthony Ball at left back. Aaron Rogers and Alex Woodfine also made their Haywood Way debuts for FC. Schmidt also returning as captain.
However it was the away side Hanwell Town who bossed the game for the first half hour, with attack after attack and not much at all coming from FC. FC keeper Ashley Jenkins kept his side in the game time after time, with a Calum Duffy header cooly collected by Jenkins, and a run in from the right by Charlie Mitchell who's low and hard shot was well saved by Jenkins much to the surprise of many. Half an hour in, FC sprung to life suddenly. Harry Scott and Alfie Touceda unsurprisingly causing problems for the opposition all game. A jinking run from Scott past his marker down the right led to a fine cross across the face of goal, however no one was on hand to tuck in as it fizzed harmlessly across goal. FC had a free kick just outside the box to give another chance, however instead of shooting, Alex Woodfine set the ball to his left to Kieron Schmidt, who couldn't get the ball out of his feet quick enough to catch the defence off guard, and was forced to pass it back to where the free kick had been taken for Harry Scott to see his shot narrowly go wide.
Just before half time a mistake by captain Keiron Schmidt led to the first goal. As Aylesbury looked to clear the ball from the box, Schmidt collected and ran with the ball rather than clearing, and was punished for this as he was tackled by a Hanwell player, who passed the ball off to Calum Duffy to cooly slot the ball in to the bottom right hand corner, a fine goal. A minute later, more dithering in the Aylesbury box from a Hanwell corner led to the ball falling to Calum Duffy who slotted in at close range for his second.
The second half saw a revived Aylesbury side coming out for the attack, with the young duo Harry Scott and Alfie Touceda showing their skill to push through and cause problems for Hanwell for much of the second half. Yet Aylesbury were not shooting enough to trouble Sam Bunting in the Hanwell goal, and no goals or shots on targets came for Aylesbury. Davide Pobbe came on and his fantastic energy and determination for the ball gave a breath of fresh air into the midfield. The introduction of Melvy N'Somi onto the left wing as well provided more opportunities, but he as well was unable to deliver the final ball. Late on Hanwell got a penalty as their man was brought down in the box, Joe Chandiram converting from the spot to make it 3-0. Hanwell held on for the clean sheet and FC look for their first goal and points under Poole. A disappointing performance with some positives to take from the second half, but FC will need to take their chances in future.
Our next game is on Tuesday and isn't an easy one, as we face Hartley Wintney.
Man of the match: Tough choice, but will go to Alfie Touceda.
