With the Moles safe from relegation, playing a few squad players in the first XI and the hosts' play off chances still alive, the onus was always on AFC to attack and thus a goal in either half secured them all the points.
Dave Carty on his return to the team could have given FC an early lead but his freekick from just outside the box cleared not only the wall but the bar as well. Dunstable scored on their first real attack of the game. A header from a right field cross was saved well by James Weatherill however; Jermaine Hall was on hand to poke home the rebound. Three minutes later Ben Stevens headed into the keeper's arms from an Aston Goss free kick. As the half continued, Courtney Massey struck an effort that Weatherill just managed to grab.
Josh Bamford had a great opportunity to draw the Moles level on 21 minutes. After using his strength to find space, his shot was misplaced with home keeper Garry Malone collecting the ball with ease. FC's best chance of a goal in the whole game came in the next passage of play. Dave Carty's cross was cleared off the line by a defender with Ty Deacon following up with a header. Again, the ball was block and as Aston Goss controlled the loose ball, it seemed inevitable he would score but the winger crashed his shot against the bar.
On the half hour, AFC's BJ Christie hit a powerful shot that whistled past Weatherill's post and as half time approached, Andre Olukanuj hit a shot that just cleared the Dunstable goal.
The second half as a spectacle could not rival the first. FC made all their substitutions early. Carty, Stevens and Leon Opek to be replaced by Davis Haule, Azeez Alabi and Joe Fitzgerald and this gave the team a more balanced feel particularly in the midfield.
Olukanuj had a minor shout for a penalty after dancing into the home box but the referee showed little interest. At the other end, home captain Moses Olaleye cracked a decent shot that Weatherill parried before Jordan Jenkins cleared. Dunstable defender Leon Cashman caught the eye with an impressive rear guard performance and he could have increased his side's lead had his powerful gone under and not over the bar with twenty minutes still to play.
It was that man BJ Christie who extended his side's lead with 13 minutes left to play. A crossed ball in space left Weatherill with too much to cover and the target man slotted the ball home. An Aston Goss shot with 10 minutes left to play was the best that FC could offer with the game fizzling out as both sides accepted the outcome.
