FC's form in recent weeks has been excellent and they started this game in positive fashion, two minutes in and a good move down the left between Charlie Hawtin and Aston Goss found Goss at the bye line and his cross into the box was met by Jordan Jenkins but he couldn't keep the header down and it flew high of Tyler Tobin's goal. Jenkins then found himself on the Ashford box but an extravegent scissor kick from the big centre half went wide.
Then with the FC pressure building the goal came that all the home fans were desperate for, Ty Deacon picked up the ball on the right hand side, squared a ball to the edge of the box which was met first time by the oncoming Alex O'Brien, and the ball flew past a despairing Tobin and nestled in the far corner for a deserved FC lead.
FC were close to extending their lead on twenty five minutes, Ty Deacon, this time raiding down the left hand side, lost the ball but it was played back into the edge of the box and it found Brian Haule back to goal, the big striker managed to turn on a sixpence and fired in a shot which had Tobin beaten all ends up but the ball cannoned off of the cross bar and away. Haule then had another shot from twenty yards along the ground rebound off of the post with the Ashford keeper again beaten.

With so may chances squandered the Aylesbury faithful were again wondering whether this season's age old problem of not finishing teams off would come back and hurt them and a minute after the restart their fears were realised, Dan Fleming battled his way through the FC defence and poked a ball into Mark Bitmead who squeezed the ball over the advancing Ashley Jenkins for the equaliser.
The lead though was short lived as on forty nine minutes a ball from the back over the top found Ty Deacon, who although he couldn't control the ball fully, managed to poke it to his right to Brian Haule who with three defenders around him got his shot away and past Tobin in the Ashford goal to the wild celebrations of the home supporters. With news now filtering around the ground that both Histon and Northwood were both behind these results would mean safety for Aylesbury.
Ashford though, now with a strong wind behind them, were starting to have the better of the play and pushing FC further and further back and there were a couple of times where the home goal was leading a charmed life but substitute Andre Olukanmi twice had good opportunities to put the game beyond the away side, on the first occasion his powerful left footed shot struck the side netting and one minute later the Ashford keeper made a point blank save from the tricky winger.
With time ebbing away and results elsewhere going in our favour all looked good for Aylesbury but then the inevitable happened, Ben Stevens and Charlie Hawtin went for the same ball on the left of the defence, both missed it and let the striker in, his cross found Max Herbert unmarked and he smashed the ball home for the equaliser.
The final whistle went at Haywood Way as everyone waited for the Histon result to come in, then dramatically on 97 minutes Histon were awarded a penalty at Farnborough which would have levelled the scores their and meant the fight for survival would have moved on to AFC Dunstable on Monday. The fans waited around their phones refreshing twitter only to find that an ex Aylesbury United keeper had settled their fate, saved the penalty and ensured survival for The Moles
