Despite two late goals which may have given the casual observer the impression this was a close game, there was little doubt that for those present this was an abject performance from the home team

Report by Jools Thomas

Arlesey strolled into a three goal lead and judging by the chances created should have been home and dry long before that late scare.
Abel Amu had the away team's first chance, swiping a right footed cross across the face of the goal early on. Five minutes later FC's Andre Olukamni sent in a low shot that Bart Pedrycz did well to hold. It wasn't to be too long however until Arlesey took the lead. A simple cross from the right left the FC defence motionless and this allowed Sean Beasley to tap the ball home from just three yards.
James Faulkner may have done a little better with a rising header soon afterwards and Arlesey should definitely have done better with their next chance. Tony Williams fired in a low shot which Ashley Jenkins did well to save with his feet and whilst FC defenders just stood and watched, Mason Spence cracked in a powerful shot that brought out the best from Jenkins.

Connor Baker put another header over the bar on 20 minutes from a corner and this was soon followed by an excellent chance when Adam Dickens smashed the ball goalwards from a knockdown producing a wonderful save from Pedrycz. This turned out to be FC's best chance of the half and Town made the Moles pay for this miss by increasing their lead. Spence strolled down the left and with consummate ease laid the ball to an unmarked Arul Amu who slotted home for 2-0. Amu could have added to the lead as the half drew to a close and only a flying Jenkins' save prevented this.

The second half saw Ben Stevens retire from the action to be replaced by Ty Deacon and this caused the team to revert to a more traditional 4-3-3 formation from the unsuccessful three men at the back first half line up.

This change in tactics didn't help FC unfortunately as the away team extended their lead. The third goal again saw the away side amble into the FC area where an unchallenged Christian Tavernier had just to stick out a toe to prod the ball past a stranded Jenkins.
Ty Deacon brought out the second impressive save of the game from Pedrycz as FC looked to get back into the game before Olukamni slipped in a cross shot that caused the keeper fewer issues. Olukamni played in another quality cross after being fed by Ben Batemen but no one was there to take advantage. James Faulkner then glanced a header wide as Arlesey took their foot off the gas somewhat.
With seven minutes to go Amu had a half decent effort which flashed across the penalty area and this was followed shortly afterwards by a dipping Spence shot from perhaps 40 yards that smacked off the cross bar with Amu unable to take advantage of the rebound.
With two minutes remaining Ty Deacon found space in the box and almost broke the net with a powerful shot off the bar to reduce the deficit. Another two minutes, with the away defence in disarray, manager Danny Gordon hit a low powerful shot past Pedrycz and although the volume from supporters increased there was to be no third goal as Arlesey shut up shop and hung on.
