FC were comprehensively beaten in this local derby and despite two of the host's goals coming from deflections, there was no doubt the gulf in desire helped the Ducks to enjoy their best ever El Quackico win.
The first real chance of the game came FC's way. Jamie West bullied his way through the Ducks' defence and only a clawed save from home keeper Zaki Oualah prevented a real effort on goal. Ryan Kinnane was a trouble for FC at both ends of the field throughout the match and his flicked header whistled just wide of the post as the two teams jostled for supremacy. The Ducks midfield was made up entirely of ex-FC men and one of these, Ollie Hogg, had a decent effort with a curling shot which went just wide of the post. In response FC's Josh Bamford hot a fair shot that took a deflection before spinning away for a corner.
Another ex-Mole Sonny French was his usual predatory self and he made Jenkins work with a low shot on 29 minutes. Hogg hit a powerful shot over the bar before Bruno Brito underlined the Ducks' superiority with a quality low shot. The opening goal couldn't be too far away and it finally came about as the result of indecision from FC keeper Ashley Jenkins. He couldn't decide whether to challenge the attacker or retreat and defend his goal line. In the end he did neither and his dallying gave Sonny French the opportunity to lift the ball over him and into an empty net albeit from an acute angle.
As the visitors regrouped, Ben Bateman may have done better with a sliced shot and at the other end, the industrious Hogg floated in a cross shot which Ashley Jenkins had to tip over to safety. If FC's lack of attacking acumen was apparent in the 1st half, then it was screamingly obvious in the second. The Moles hadn't even entered the opposing half when the home team doubled their lead. Bruno Brito grabbed the goal when his shot hit an FC leg and deflected into the net. It was cruel to concede in that manner but the goal served only to highlight the Ducks' willingness to shoot and FC's shortcomings in defending deeply.
Daniel McAteer forced Oualah into a block and this was followed by Ty Deacon, one of the few FC men to emerge with any credit, whose powerful shot on 55 minutes produced a routine save. At the other end, Hogg fired in a free kick from a dangerous position but Jenkins had it covered and gathered easily. Josh Bamford hit a shot over the bar as the game ebbed and flowed. Ollie Hogg was trying his best to get on the score sheet and he was very close as the clock ticked down and once again it was Jenkins who denied the young playmaker his chance.
FC's best chance of the game came on 76 minutes. Ty Deacon broke clear on the right and his shot across goal was saved by the fingertips of Zaki Oualah and with it went any chance of FC regaining a little pride. The scoring was completed on 82 minutes and again it was a deflected shot as Ryan Kinnane's shot hit an FC Man before nestling in the net. With eight minutes still to play, the embarrassment could have become a humiliation but in the scheme of small mercies, no further goals were conceded.
