FC came into the game on the back of six defeats on the bounce. During the past two weeks Danny, Gareth and the management team have re jigged the squad to try and halt the slide. Making their debut's today were striker Jamie West from Ascot, midfielder Alex O'Brien from Barton Rovers and midfielder Frankie Baigent, a dual signing from Gloucester City made the bench.
West partnered Josh Bamford up front with Ty Deacon starting on the right of midfield. Daniel McAteer slotted in at right back with Ollie Emsden taking the left berth and it was Ben Stevens that partnered new boy O'Brien in the centre of midfield.
After overnight rain it was a heavy pitch that greeted the two sides at The SRD Stadium, Histon in the past few weeks have had their share of discipline issues and it was again two sending off's that were eventually to be their undoing. With both sides in the bottom four and both on a recent run of poor results it was always going to be a game of attrition. It was the home side that took the game to Histon in the early stages and the new look midfield of Alex O'Brien and Ben Stevens looked assured as they broke up any threat from the away side and bought wide players Walters and Deacon into the game.
The first chance came on eight minutes when Josh Bamford received the ball on the right wing, fired in a cross which Jamie West beat the defender to but could only clip the ball over the bar. Three minutes later and it was Kai Walters on the left who knocked the ball inside and found the impressive Ty Deacon who's shot went wide of the Histon goal.
The indiscipline from Histon, and especially Ben Yeomans, was evident as early as the fourteenth minute when a very late challenge on Ben Stevens saw the FC captain, making his 250th appearance today, writhing on the floor and the striker was shown a yellow card for the tackle.Histon though did have half chances, Yeomans receieved the ball from a Forster goal kick and tried to half volley & lob the FC keeper whio was on the edge of his area but the ball went well wide.
The best chance of the first half fell to FC defender Daniel McAteer, who received the ball on the right, cut isndie and fired a good shot which was well held by Kalin Artakley. Two minutes later and Kai Walters, one on one with a Histon defender was felled in the box for a stonewall penalty which Josh Bamford calmly desptached for an FC lead.
Walters was again put in just as the half was coming to an end, but with the sticky pitch he couldn't bring the ball under control and the attack came to nothing as the referee bew for half time.
Aylesbury had the game under control as the second half started, but within five minutes the home fans groans could audibley be heard as Histon equalised after yet another defensive error. Jordan Jenkins, trying to get the ball back to Forster, didn't put eough pace on the ball and Matty Allan chipped the stranded FC keeper for the equaliser.
Ben Yeomans should have been red carded soon after when he again left his foot in on Stevens but the referee appeared to give him the benefit of the doubt and took no action. Histon could have taken a shock lead on sixty minutes when a shot from all of twenty five yards through a crowd of players was well held by Kyle Forster at full strech.
With the game appearing to be ebbing away from Aylesbury, Walters found himeslf in the box with the ball at his feet, he shot left footed and Histon's Max Hall standing on the line, raised both hands and stopped a certain goal. The big center half was red carded and Jamie West stroked the ball home much to the relief of the home fans.
Ben Yeomans was then also red carded for yet another bad tackle as Histon were reduced to nine men. McAteer had a good shot well saved just before the end and it was Aylesbury that took the three points as the referee bought matters to an end as he blew the final whistle
