Whilst the game was low on quality, there was no doubt there was a will to win from the home team and to be truthful with the way the season has been so far, the points are much more important than the performance.
The first twenty minutes belonged to FC as they passed the ball confidently around the SRD Stadium but it wasn't until the 13th minute that the team had their first chance when Andre Olukamni played in Kieron Turner who was unlucky to see his powerful effort tipped over the bar. As has so often been the case this season however FC fell behind to a soft goal. There was no doubt that Charlie Losasso's free kick was of exceptional quality but after it crashed off the post it should have been cleared. Instead Callum Bunting was left with the easiest of chances, stabbing the ball home from a couple of yards with the FC defence stood like statues.
To be fair to the Red Men, they then took the game to Becky. A header at the back stick from Ben Stevens was placed straight into the arms of Sam Bunting but it wasn't long before the equaliser was found just before the half hour. A decent right wing cross from Jon Montgomery was met perfectly by debut boy Adam Dickens whose decisive header levelled the scores.
Losasso again made the woodwork shudder with a terrific turn and shot and this was the prelude to his side once again gaining the lead. A lofted right field cross left FC keeper Ashley Jenkins in No Man's Land and again with the home defence static, Bunting just had to tap the ball home to give his side the lead again.
Kicking to their traditional Town End in the 2nd half, FC survived an early scare as the dangerous Bunting saw his 54th minute shot flash across the face of the goal. In response Dickens hit the post for Aylesbury and very soon the home team's pressure ensured that the sides were level. Substitute James Faulkner latched onto a perfect through ball and a combination of aggression and keeper uncertainty saw the ball ricochet off keeper Sam Bunting and trickle into an empty net much to Faulks' and his teammates delight.
In the very next attack Lee Stobbs sent in a teasing cross which they keeper could only parry into Montgomery's path. Monty should have given FC the lead but he contrived to hit the ball wide with the keeper lost. Jordan Jenkins then had a half chance for his team but his effort was directed straight at Bunting. With Becky's next move, they really should have taken the lead. FC were at sixes and sevens as the ball pinged around the area with both Bunting and Minhas somehow failing to connect before the ball was cleared.
Lee Stobbs had a particularly fine 2nd half and his delicate through pass to James Faulkner allowed a run on goal. Once in the box, Faulkner was brought down with the referee awarding an undeniable penalty. Suitably dusted down, the big striker took the spot kick himself, hitting the ball low into the bottom corner just out of the keeper's reach.
There were a few half chances for the away team notably from Bunting, Losasso and finally Komal Llewellyn Reid, none of which troubled the FC defence too greatly and as the final whistle sounded, there was great relief and satisfaction that the points were finally secure.
