FC went into the game without the unavailable Ben Stevens, Kyle Anthony and Ryan O'Toole and with Lynton Goss and Gareth Price still injured it was a much changed side that travelled to St Ives. Even with the change to the centre half partnership, Adam Logie partnered Grant Fryer it was two Solid defensive displays from both sides which meant that chances were very few and far between and keeper James Weatherill did not really have one save to make.
With traffic problems a plenty those who did make the journey had major issues getting to the ground and so it wasn't a perfect build up to what was a very important game. It was FC though who started the quickest of the two sides and it was Brian Haule who had the first strike when he turned and fired over from 25 after just 5 minutes. Then it was St Ives' turn when Grant Fryer had to clear a dangerous cross from Danny Watson. However that was the extent of the excitement of the first half as the game was played out in the middle of the field with both sides prodding and probing but not able to create any real opportunities
The Moles did half a half chance on thirty minutes as James Dobson curled in a ball from the left but the ball was headed away with Brian Haule just beaten to the ball. St Ives finished the first half the better of the two sides and with five mini=utes of the first half remaining Jordan Jarrold curled in a ball which striker Eason couldn't control under pressure from the Moles' Danny Murphy.
The midfield battle which had been bubbling all game suddenly boiled over five minutes before half time. Bateman slid in on Knight by the half way line with his studs raised and this sparked a melee involving at least a dozen players. After the dust settled the referee decreed that Bateman’s challenge deserved a yellow card and Adam Logie, who had probably run the furthest to get involved also picked up a yellow for his pains.
It was St Ives that started the second half on the front foot but FCs defence held firm. Higgs put in another dangerous cross but there was no one to meet it, two minutes later St Ives attacked again but Weatherill was quick off of his line and cleared the ball to safety. The pressure from the home side continued and on 65 minutes a corner went over Weatherill's outstreched hand but covering defender Grant Fryer cleared for a corner.
FC did have attacks of their own, Dobson found space on the left and picked out midfielder Jamie Rudd who headed wide from 8 yards when scoring looked easier. Young Mole Mitch Collins, a star of last years U18s side and currently playing in the Development Side came on for Dobson with 5 minutes to go and could have made a name for himself and secured all three points, Davis Haule put Collins clear down the left, the youngster cut in on goal, but his shot travelled just past the far post
A point secured rather than lost..........
