The Dynamos were back in action on Tuesday evening against title favourites, Leighton Town. They are currently unbeaten and would provide a tough test for Dynamos. The Management had also brought in two new “loanees” from Kings Langley and both Rio Deall and Josh Boorn were straight into the starting line-up.
The first action in the second minute saw Fulton with a late tackle and he went straight into the referees book. The resulting free kick was hit into the mixer but Zammit rose highest to claim the ball. The first quarter of an hour saw both teams testing each other, but not really getting any clean chances. In fact, Dynamos created the first real opening as Brownie played a ball to Fulton and his pass found Deall racing through on goal, his shot went wide of the mark.
Then Leighton dealt a blow to Dynamos as their No.10, Lubjoit, picked up a great pass, twisted and turned in the box and managed to squeeze his shot into the bottom corner. 0-1 Leighton. 25 minutes in and Leighton were starting to gain the majority of possession. Some good work on their left side saw a great chance, but Hodgins was equal to it, throwing himself into a great challenge to block the shot. Moments later Khan and Lawford combined well with Khan getting a shot away which was saved by the Leighton keeper.
Boorn was proving a thorn in Leightons side with his closing down and pace. Deall and Fulton worked together well to create an opening for Boorn, but his shot went over the bar. Some good football being played by both teams. Leighton then saw two of their players get yellow cards with a couple of minutes as the first half ended with just the one goal.
Half Time: Dynamos 0-1 Leighton Town
Leighton came out strong in the second half and ball into the Dynamos box looked to create panic, but Zammit came to gather.
Deall was involved again as he managed to collect a pass out from Griffiths and beat his man. He made it to the box and squared the ball, but a Leighton defender just managed to clear before it fell to Khan. 55 minutes in and Easty/Dwyer made their first change. Ollie Lawford was subbed off and Sam Wood entered the field.
A few minutes later Prince Nimoh was introduced, coming on for debutant, Rio Deall. 63 minutes on the clock and Fulton again the architect as he played a lovely ball through to Khan who raced clear and got his shot away, but the keeper saved comfortably. Captain Terry Griffiths was then given a Yellow Card for a tackle of the Leighton striker, much to the dis-pleasure of their fans and bench…!
Leighton looked to have sealed the points when a free kick got a deflection in the box and ended up at the Leighton players feet to slot home easily from close range. 0-2 Leighton. At the other end Dynamos still looked lively and some good feet from Prince saw him upended. The free kick, taken by Mullarkey, was met by Griffiths at the back post, but sailed over the bar.
75 minutes and Will Mullarkey, who had an excellent game, was subbed off for Harry Loakes in a straight swap. Finally there was something for the large Dynamos contingent to cheer. Prince was fouled again on the right wing. Boorn stepped up and curled a lovely ball to the back post where Hodgins was waiting and with a towering header, planted the ball past the keeper. 1-2 Leighton.
80 minutes and a very close call. Sam Wood won the ball and beat his defender. The ball was rolling out and he managed to keep it in and slam it past the keeper…but the ball had gone out….just…! Dynamos were really pushing for the equaliser now and Boorn and Prince both had half chances but their shots were blocked and well saved as Leighton were struggling with the Dynamos intensity.
5 minutes before the end and Leighton No.7, Fitzy, upended Brownie and finally received a well deserved Yellow Card. Immediately after Leighton raced through the other end and Loakes clashed with their player in the box which was met by screams of “Penalty” by the Leighton players and fans, but the referee waved play on and Hodgins cleared the ball. Khan was next in the book after an innocuous challenge which the referee deemed a caution.
As we entered the final few minutes of injury time, Leighton swung a corner into the Dynamos box and their player managed to sneak in at the back post and score right at the death. 1-3 Leighton. Luke Nugent and Josh Edworthy came on for Jamie Fulton and Jake Baldwin for a couple of minutes at the end.
Final score: Dynamos 1-3 Leighton Town
