FC’s march towards the Southern League play offs again stuttered as they were held to a draw by a resolute Beaconsfield team who could and maybe should have grabbed all three points on offer. A home side with their shooting boots would surely have taken advantage of the many chances that came their way and in the end Aylesbury will count themselves fortunate to leave the ground with a point.
The opening few minutes of the game were tetchy as each side jabbed and prodded without a great deal of end product. Bradley Wadkins looked busy as did Ryan O’Toole in an unfamiliar right wing role. Brian Haule also looked lively and his shot on 13 minutes took a double deflection before going behind for a goal kick for the first real opportunity of the match.
Victor Osubi led the line robustly for the home team and his first chance was on 20 minutes however his shot lacked the accuracy to threaten the FC goal. Five minutes later and Guram Guramishvili flicked on a corner, bamboozling James Weatherill but in the process also fooling his team mates.
Wadkins created a half chance which Adam Logie could not capitalise upon and at the other end Jed De Souza fashioned his side’s best chance thus far as his looping header beat Weatherill before bouncing off the bar and away to safety. Wadkins was still working hard and his cross on 34 minutes was slightly behind Brian Haule who was unable to profit.
Beaconsfield created an additional effort soon after. Breaking from an FC corner, the ball found its way to Aaron Berry who couldn’t find any purchase on the ball and Weatherill was able to stoop to save. Another breakaway a few moments later saw Kofi Lockhart Adams crash the ball skywards when composure was called for and this was followed just a few moments later as Osubu crossed for Charlie Lossaso forcing Weatherill to again thwart the attack. FC were at sixes and sevens and Osubu attempted to break the deadlock pushing Weatherill to tip over his goalbound effort.
The 2nd half started more brightly for FC and Brian Haule almost broke the deadlock with his chip beating the keeper but unfortunately hitting the crossbar. This wasn’t the end of SYCOB as an attacking force; Osubu and then Berry had decent chances with Ben Stevens performing heroic blocks.
Ben turned villain a few moments later. His misplaced pass played in Lockhart Adams who could not keep his shot down, firing over the bar. With time ticking down FC found themselves under pressure and despite trying to clear their lines, the agile Aaron Berry nipped in to tuck away the simplest of chances with just a quarter of an hour to go.
“I’ll take a point here” is a term used far too often in recent FC games yet this was the murmur from the FC fans that had made the short journey. Their wishes were granted on 82 minutes when after a powerful Lynton Goss strike was batted down by keeper Sam Bunting, Brian Haule was pulled back as he followed up the shot. The referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty kick which Brian converted with his usual coolness.
Jeanmal Prosper had a fine game and his push into midfield had created the space for Lynton Goss’ penalty winning strike. Prosper’s work allowed Lynton to unleash another potent drive and with a few moments to go Brian Haule could have won it had his diving header not gone the wrong side of the post.
