FC grabbed another vital win in their quest for a play-off place but the points were never truly safe until the final minutes.

Report by Jools Thomas

FC grabbed another vital win in their quest for a play-off place and whilst the points were never truly safe until the final minutes, the team were more than worth the victory. Two penalties and two sendings off were major talking points in an entertaining fixture.

FC were swiftly out of the blocks and it was Sonny French who had the first chance, putting it in a cross shot which just cleared the keeper’s left. Beaconsfield replied on nine minutes. Aaron Berry found space in the Aylesbury box and his deft header crashed against the home bar. A couple of minutes a goal mouth scramble resulted in the away team taking the lead. After a couple of half chances, Guram Guramishvilli headed the ball over the line whilst under pressure.

Sonny French attempted to reply by playing in Aston Goss however away keeper Sam Bunting rushed out to foil. Soon afterwards Beaconsfield’s Aaron Berry attempted an audacious chip however James Weatherill was alert to pluck the ball from the air. Becky continued to pile pressure on FC in a bright opening as a series of shots in a blocked penalty area saw the home goal live a charmed life.

FC weathered the storm and soon Sonny French played in Lynton Goss with Lynton needing to be more alert to the intentions of his team mate. A few seconds later Aston Goss had a decent chance as the home team began to look more and more dangerous. Sonny French was the next man to have a decent chance with Bunting making a decent save from the Aylesbury man.

On 39 minutes the decisive spell of game in the entire game began. Sam Bunting took out Lynton Goss in the box with the keeper receiving a yellow card for his troubles. Worse for Beaconsfield however was the award of a penalty which Brian Haule swept home for the equaliser. Just a minute later and FC were in front. The ball was lofted high into the box and in one swift movement; Sonny French controlled and fired a shot into the corner of the goal. On 41 minutes Guramishvilli pulled back Lynton Goss when the FC winger was in on goal. The referee gave the Beaconsfield centre half a straight red. A free kick on the edge of the box was awarded but FC were unable to profit. Just on the stroke of half time, Lynton Goss found space on the right before teeing up Aston Goss who had the simplest of passes into an unguarded net for 3-1.

The second half was less than a few seconds old when Beaconsfield reduced the deficit. Aaron Couch controlled the ball and smashed a spectacular shot past Weatherill for 3-2. FC went about trying to restore their two goal cushion. Lynton Goss and Sonny combined well but to no avail and then Brian Haule hit the bar from a well-placed Bradley Wadkins free kick. FC were hitting a spell of good pressure and the busy Sonny French soon hit a rasping drive which the keeper did well to parry.

This was not to say that Beaconsfield didn’t have their moments and on 68 minutes, only a classic last ditch tackle by Ben Stevens prevented a run on goal. As more pressure was exerted, ex Mole Denilson Vincente drew Weatherill from his goal however the striker found the angle too acute and was unable to profit.

The game was heading towards its conclusion and still the outcome wasn’t cut and dried. Wadkins played in Lynton Goss whose drilled shot hit the bar. The final action of the game occurred when FC substitute Gareth Price was felled by away keeper Sam Bunting. This resulted in the keeper receiving his marching orders and Beaconsfield being reduced to nine men. Gareth Price elected to take the penalty himself and it was only as the ball nestled in the back of the net that the three points were truly safe.
