Moles go down in the rain at Marlow in frankly a lacklustre performance

After two good wins in the previous week Aylesbury came to Marlow in good spirits. Sean Sonner returned from illness and Adam Logie was again available but we lost Kyle Anthony to injury and with a number of players still out there was more shuffling of the team. Rob Tomlin returned to right back, Danny Gordon partnered Logie at Centre Half. With Sonny French delayed a quick change was made before the game started and Danny Burnell was included in the starting line up.

In torrential rain, which lasted all afternoon it was always going to be a difficult game but the first ten minutes apart FC were outplayed by their hosts and frankly should have lost by more. It started brightly for The Moles with Gareth Price attacking at every opportunity. Early on Davis Haule put Price in on the right, he cut inside but his shot was well saved by Simon Grant. Price then turned provider finding Robert Tomlin on the right flank but his ball in was cut out and went for a corner but on 11 minutes Marlow showed what FC lacked! a killer instinct in front of goal. Daniel Gordon's poor header was pounced on by Lee Barney in the box and he slotted past James Warrington for the lead and that for FC was it. Marlow were first to every ball, wanted it more and put in more of a shift that Aylesbury bar Connor Baker and Adam Logie who gave 100% for the whole game. Warrington made a good save again from Barney before Marlow made it 2-0 just before half time, Warrington half cleared a corner there was chaos in the FC box and eventually Barney forced the ball home.

Manager Steve Bateman replaced Brian Haule and Daniel Gordon with Sean Sonner and Ollie Hogg and changed to a three man defence to try and get back into the game, but it made little difference Hogg cleared a ball off of the line. The Moles had a couple of half chances but it was still Marlow that looked as if they wanted it more and FC reverted to long balls into the Marlow defence which were gobbled up by their centre halves.

Let's hope that with players coming back and a few harsh words from the management that the FA Cup tie next weekend is a different affair and that there is a different mind set because we will need one.

Man of the Match: Connor Baker - Always gave 100% and hardly put a foot wrong
