Matches against Royston are always difficult affairs for The Moles, In the last two seasons, in four meetings Aylesbury have claimed just one point. Tonight's could and perhaps should have gone the same way. Coming in to the FC line up were Connor Baker, a ready made replacement for Daniel Murphy at left back and Ollie Hogg who replaced the injured Bradley Wadkins. With Danny Burnell unavailable Gareth Price partnered Sean Sonner up front.
It was Royston who were were quickest out of the blocks playing a passing game on the flat Haywood Way surface but FC did have their chances, Sonner picked the ball up on the right and his cross into the six yard box found Sonny French who was tackled, the ball flew off his shin and Paul Bastock tipped it onto the post, the ball then came back into French's path again out wide on the edge of the six yard box but all he could do was flash the ball across the penalty area. Royston were having the majority of possession without ever creating any real chances. Gareth Price always looked dangerous and one run down the right ended with a whipped cross which was just too high for Sonner who's header looped over the bar. Aylesbury took the lead in the 38th Minute after a jinking run from French was ended by the last defender, the ball bounced to Gareth Price on the angle of the penalty area who cut in onto his left foot and smashed the ball past Bastock in the Royston goal to the joy of "The Drummer Boys" behind the goal. Kyle Anthony nearly made it 2-0 minutes later but his header from a corner was cleared off the line.
The second half continued much as the first with Royston having lots of the ball and FC being pushed further back in a rear guard action, Connor Baker was having a great game at Left Back repelling everything that came his way but his error early in the half allowed Royston a shot at goal which went narrowly wide. The Crows were now piling on the pressure and even keeper Bastock was up for corners as the game came to it;s end but Aylesbury had chances with both Jamie Rudd, on for Hogg and Aston Goss going close.
All in all a good three points for Aylesbury in a tough encounter as Royston will be challenging for a play off place come the end of the season
