The Dynamos were drawn away in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup to a Buckingham Athletic team in the division below, having already beaten them 2-0 in a pre-season friendly, so expectations were high as Dynamos kicked off in the sunshine. The first chance fell to Buckingham, but their first time effort was ballooned well over the bar. Ex-Dynamo, Carl Tappin had a free kick go just wide after 10 minutes of play. Moments later Montel Brown won a free kick which Charlie Ogle stepped up to take. The keeper fumbled it and Alfi Touceda couldn’t get his shot on target.
24 minutes in and Alfi Touceda was fouled, again, and the free kick was taken by Charlie Ogle, but Dynamos couldn’t get on the end of it.
Finally the game sprang into life as Alfi Touceda, again the architect, surged forward and released Montel Brown through on goal. He steadied himself and slotted the ball home. 1-0 Dynamos. The match wasn’t the best for skill, but on 38 minutes a free kick 25 yards out for Buckingham saw Carl Tappin hit a superb shot which rattled the bar and cleared by Dan Ball. The last action of the half saw an Alfi Touceda free kick guided onto the head of Terry Griffiths, but the header went inches wide. Half time 1-0 Dynamos.
Paul Adam picked up a knock in the first half and was replaced at half time by Dan Boateng. Aylesbury almost made it 2 goals in the first minute as Matty Chew played in Charlie Ogle who raced into the box and his cross/shot went harmlessly out for a goal kick. 49 minutes and a foul from Dan Boateng resulted in a free kick in a dangerous position. The ball was swung in and the header looped over Dan McAteer and into the goal. 1-1. 57 minutes and the game had swung in favour of Buckingham. A long ball out caught Dynamos sleeping and their player ran through and unleashed a hard shot which Dan McAteer couldn’t save…Dynamos were now 2-1 down.
Davide Pobbe won a free kick which was taken by Charlie Ogle again. This time the ball fell to Terry Griffiths but his outstretched leg just guided the ball wide. Ollie Lemon was introduced and Matty Chew taken off. Alfi Touceda and Montel Brown both had half chances which were either saved or off target as Dynamos searched for an equaliser. 76 minutes and Ollie Lemon beat two players down the Dynamos right wing and hit a lovely cross which was met by Montel Brown with a thumping header which hit the bar and went over.
84 minutes and The Dynamos were finally back level. Terry Griffiths headed a free kick back over to Dave Brown, he in turn headed it back across goal where Dan Boateng was there to kick it over the line. 2-2 and penalties looking likely. In the 96th minute, a Buckingham attack saw a last gasp block from Terry Griffiths save the day and send the tie to penalties.
The penalty shoot out started with a great save from Dan McAteer from the first spot kick. Montel Brown, Charlie Ogle and Davide Pobbe all stepped up and scored. Dan Ball then had his saved as we went to sudden death. Terry Griffiths and Luke Nugent held their nerve to both score, but Dan Boateng missed the vital kick and sent Buckingham Athletic through.
