Moles go down in the first leg of the Bucks Charity Cup Semi Final

FC again made a number of changes for this Semi Final First Leg. Nick Bennion returned in goal, Paul Field made his first appearance at right back, U18s player George Scott came into the left side of defence and Ben Stevens replaced the absent Jordan Jenkins at Centre Half.

With five straight defeats behind them, FC were hoping to get some confidence ahead of the trip to Peterborough this weekend but alas it was not to be. On a wet night at Bell Close it was the away side that started the better of the two sides, new boy Paul Field got the ball into the box after just six minutes but it just evaded Brian Haule. Two minutes later and it was Ryan Young on the other wing that put another good ball into the box which was cleared by the Leighton defence.

The home side though also had their half chances, Lewis McBride had a deflected shot which flew into Nick Bennion's arms. Leighton did get the ball into the back of Aylesbury's net on twenty one minutes but it was ruled offside.

As the half ended Aylesbury had another opportunity with a free kick on the edge of the box, Ty Deacon's shot was deflected and fell at the feet of Davis Haule but his first time shot was straight at Tom Wyant in the home goal. Leighton could have taken the lead just before the break when Ross Adams fired a ball across the Aylesbury box but Aaron McKee at the back post could not find the net.

Half Time Leighton Town 0 Aylesbury FC 0

After a pretty lacklustre first half the second was set to be a feisty affair with three goals, twenty man fracas, yellow cards and a sending off! Again it was The Moles that started the half the better and were rewarded after just four minutes, Ryan Young picked up the ball on the right, swung in an inch perfect cross which was glanced home by Brian Haule for the lead.

Leighton now were in control of the centre of the park and were dominating possession as Aylesbury struggled to get a foot hold. Leighton had a number of free kicks on the edge of the FC box that they weren't able to convert. The first incident of the game came after seventy seven minutes when all twenty players were involved right by the home bench after a challenge by Derek Feyi who was booked. the game was starting to get more and more niggly and when Ben Stevens made a strong tackle with just ten minutes to go, yet again a large group of players converged on the incident with fingers being pointed and pushing and shoving taking place.

Eventually Leighton made FC pay with yet another free kick on the edge of the penalty area, this time Tom Silford stepped up and slotted the ball around the Aylesbury wall and into the goal for a deserved equaliser. The comeback wasn't yet complete but the home side were now everything at FC and eventually the pressure told when Derek Feyi was adujdged to have fowled Buckley in the box and ex Mole Jordan Frederick stepped up to slot home the resultant penalty.

The eventful evening was still not over as right on the final whistle Craig Carby made a challenge from behind which again sparked unsavoury scenes amongst the players, Carby was yellow carded and Derek Feyi was shown a red.

Should be an interesting second leg at Haywood Way in two weeks time, Tuesday 19th February
