United Counties League Premier Division side Newport Pagnell were the visitors to Haywood Way on Saturday afternoon and Manager Scott Reynolds was able to welcome back Jordan Jenkins and Craig Carby to the starting line up, Temi Oladejo was able to start his first game since the Oxford United friendly and with Ty Deacon and Harry Scott moving on it was Matt Cruse and Bruno Brito who occupied the wide berths.

On a difficult dry pitch and with howling winds the first half was played out in the middle third with players from both sides struggling with the tricky conditions. The only real chance occurred just on the half time break when a corner thrown in from the right was missed by the FC defence and a Newport striker was able to just bundle the ball home from three yards.

With the wind behind them in the second half it was the home side that the majority of the play and the chances without being able to convert any of them. Bruno Brito had a shot from the edge of the box pushed away, Ryan Ware fired a ball across the box but there was no one to meet it. The best chances though fell to the unlucky Aaron King, firstly the big striker had an overhead kick well saved by the keeper, King then ran onto a ball and lashed it at goal but the ball was pushed away again by the keeper. The best chance though was to come later in the half, some good interplay between King and Ware saw the striker's shot from twenty five yards cannon off of the cross bar and away to safety.

This was a bit of an afternoon to forget with FC struggling to find the performances that were shown against Oxford and Arlesey earlier in pre season. The team will now entertain Mursley on Tuesday evening at Haywood Way with a 7.45pm Kick Off
