FC finished off their pre-season programme with a creditable 0-0 draw against Premier Division Kings Langley.

Report by Jools Thomas

Overall, their more senior opponents did create the better chances however, the Moles should be very pleased with their clean sheet. The availability of most key players and the competition for places will give Davis and Brian Haule some real thinking to do between now and the opening league game at Hayes & Yeading.

Matt Cruse had FC’s opening chance on eight minutes forcing the keeper to tip the ball round the post and this was followed a couple of minutes later by a shot over the bar from ex FC favourite Gareth Price.

Two quick fire attempts, the first a blocked drive and the second a guided side footer saw the home defence hold fast and as FC recovered, an Anthony Ball right field cross was only just missed by the outstretched leg of Cruse. FC were enjoying a good spell of attacking football and Aston Goss was the next man to venture forward however he pushed the ball a little too far forwards on a forward run allowing the keeper time to smother.

Ashley Jenkins had an excellent game for the Moles. He blocked a KL move with his feet before what turned out to be FC’s best effort of the game. The ball found Kieron Schmidt on the edge of this box and his sweet strike was acrobatically tipped over the bar. Boss Davis Haule might have found more luck on another night in a one on one but the keeper managed to palm the ball away.

A shot over the bar in the very first minute of the second half signalled the away team’s intentions before Jeanmal Prosper replied with a guided effort, which was flicked wide. This was one of the few chances for FC as the game entered a period of Kings Langley pressure. In the main, the FC defence stood firm with Jenkins being tested just the once as he blocked the striker with his feet on 52 minutes.

Harry Scott and then Aston Goss might have had more luck on another night and this was the prelude to Kings’ best chance of the game. As we have seen many times, Gareth Price dropped his shoulder when clean through however a fine finger tip save by Jenkins took the sting from the ball and prevented a goal.

The final chance of the game for either team was a flicked header by Prosper deep in the away penalty area but it had neither the power nor the accuracy to trouble the keeper and the ball drifted harmlessly wide.
