Goals from Jeanmal Prosper and Kieron Schmidt gave the Moles a win but the game will be remembered for some feisty tackles and the sending off of Prosper midway through the second half.
Aston Goss has been in fine form this pre-season and he fed the impressive Matt Cruse who was unlucky with a blocked effort in the game’s first real opportunity. Derek Feyi is a man who has in the past made occasional appearances for FC and he almost opened the scoring a few moments later however, his header was directed over the bar. The best chance of the game thus far then fell to the home side when a rasping low shot cannoned off the outside of the bar with the keeper well beaten.
As the half progressed, FC continued to probe and Cruse threatened briefly although his strike was always going wide and soon afterwards a last ditch Berko tackle blocked Goss’ attempted shot. The final move of the half again saw FC take the lead. Ty Deacon fed Jeanmal Prosper on the edge of the box with the midfielders shot taking a deflection before nestling in the bottom corner.
Schmidt hit a half volley just wide of the post on 54 minutes before the talking point of the afternoon. A challenge within the Berko half saw most players and staff involved in an altercation that ended with Prosper getting a straight red for an alleged kick. Still being a man down did not blunt FC’s attacking threat. Ty provided another quality assist to Goss whose shot stung the fingertips of the home keeper.
Meanwhile Davis gave himself the chance to see other players and he made his first changes of the game with Jordan Jenkins and Kerran Lataille replacing Feyi and Goss. Just a few minutes later and the home team were level. James Weatherill produced an air kick allowing the home striker to bypass him and guide the ball into the net from an acute angle.
Despite being a man down, forward Harry Scott was brought on to replace full back Anthony Ball. With eight minutes of the game left FC grabbed the winner. Kieron Schmidt pushed the ball forward, and with great determination continued his run. Whilst the home keeper remained glued to his line, the experienced midfielder advanced before knocking the ball sweetly into an empty goal.
