Report by Jools Thomas
FC continued their pre-season work out with an energetic work out against Staines Town and a Harry Scott goal 15 minutes from time proved to be the difference between the sides. A smart cross from the left allowed the young forward to steal a march on his marker before sliding the ball past the keeper.
Kieron Schmidt is looking very sharp this pre-season and he produced the first chance for either side with a strike that whistled the wrong side of the post. The visitors replied and may have taken the lead as the Staines striker lobbed FC keeper Ashley Jenkins but the effort had too much weight and sailed harmlessly over the bar.
Schmidt was again in the action and he bustled through several challenges before releasing a low shot which the keeper collected to his right. Again Staines showed their tracking acumen as the ball whistled past the post from a striker’s low snapshot. Aston Goss is another FC man in form and the away keeper did very well to palm over his powerful effort after 34 minutes. Ty Deacon, celebrated his commitment to the club with a very busy performance and his clever knock could have fed in Aston as the half came to a close.
A free kick early in the 2nd half flew inches over the Staines bar as FC made a bright start to the 2nd period and a few minutes later Ty Deacon’s hit a purposeful half volley which flew inches over the bar. FC keeper James Weatherill had come on at first time and he made a very brave parry from an unmarked Staines man.
This was merely the prelude for Scott to bag what all at FC hope will be the first of many goals in the red of Aylesbury.
