Aylesbury FC v Risborough Rangers

Mike Farquharson30 Aug 2015 - 04:39

The Moles cruised into the 1st Qualifying Round with a comprehensive victory at Windsors against a spirited Risborough side.

As soon as the draw was made the management and players of Aylesbury FC knew what a potential banana skin of a game this was. A local derby against a club two rungs lower in the pyramid in front of a big home crowd in Risborough.

Manager Steve Bateman was forced into making a few changes. The returning Danny Murphy was only fit enough to start from the bench, whilst work commitments and holidays meant that regular centre backs Ben Stevens & Kyle Anthony were both unavailable as was striker Ryan O'Toole. So right back Jeanmal Prosper partnered Grant Fryer in the centre of defence, Lamar Simpson dropped in at right back and Brian Haule returned up front.

From the kick off it was the away side that took control of the game with early chanced for both James Dobson and Lynton Goss who both had shots from the edge of the box. Goss had another chance which was smartly saved by the Risborough keeper as he was slipped in by the influential Jamie Rudd.

Then on 21 minutes FC took the lead, a ball into the box found Brian Haule on the centre spot and he managed to swivel and with the outside of his right foot place the ball back from where it had come from, but over keeper and into the corner of the net for what was a well deserved lead. That lead could have been extended a few minutes later but a Goss shot was again tipped round the post.

HT Risborough 0 Aylesbury FC 1

The second half continued much as the first with FC having most of the possession and playing the better football. The Moles had a great chance to increase their lead when a James Dobson cross from the left was headed goalward by Gareth Price but again the ball was tipped round the post by the keeper.

Then the goal that killed the tie, there was some lovely interplay on the edge of the area between Rudd, Price and Brian Haule which ended with Jamie Rudd flicking the ball with his right foot into the back of the net which made it 2-0. Minuutes kater and the game was over, Gareth Price was upended in the box and it was left for Brian Haule to calmly send the keeper the wrong way to end the tie.

Aylesbury will now travel to Chesham Utd on the 12th September in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
