FC took to the practice pitches for their 2nd pre-season friendly of the summer against a lively and spirited AFC Dunstable

By Jools Thomas

FC took to the practice pitches for their 2nd pre-season friendly of the summer against a lively and spirited AFC Dunstable, tipped to be one of the front runners in the forthcoming Spartan South Midlands campaign.

Both sides looked up for a fight and the game was action packed from the kick off with FC keeper George Zammit making a good fingertip save as early as the 3rd minute. After the initial sparring, FC took the lead when a corner was met by a leaping Jeanmal Prosper who powered the ball home with a firm header. AFC Dunstable were not put off by this set back. A series of well struck shots were all dealt with by Zammitt but there was little the young keeper could do about the penalty awarded on 19 minutes as the away team drew level. The rest of the first half saw no more goals however there were chances. FC’s Brian Haule, for example, was unlucky with a turn and shot.

The second half saw Adam Logie, Danny Murphy, Ben Stevens and Terry Dixon all introduced for their 1st run outs of the season and almost immediately Ben was unlucky with a header at the far post and at the other end Dunstable should have taken the lead as a shot was fired just wide of the post.

The 2nd period appeared finely balanced before AFC Dunstable notched up an attempt to put the game out of sight. Firstly a goal was scored directly from a corner and this lead was extended further as Dunstable found themselves with the freedom of the penalty area allowing an attacker to drop his shoulder and place the ball into an empty net. A 4th goal soon followed, a free header at the back post as the FC defence went walkabouts.

With the team 4-1 down, FC turned the tables on their guests and began to demonstrate their own attacking talents. Lynton Goss ghosted in from the left and hit a shot which spun off the keeper’s body and into the net for 4-2. Ken Feyi had been extremely lively in a striker’s role and he grabbed another goal before Lynton Goss grabbed the equaliser with a low shot of real quality.
