Another good work out as The Moles overcome Spartan League Tring Athletic.

Report by Jools Thomas

FC settled this contest with a goal in each half as the Moles’ pre-season continued at Tring Athletic. The first half especially, saw FC play their very best passing game and perhaps they deserved more than their 1-0 half time lead. With the team playing uphill second half plus the inevitable changes, FC were unable to exert the same influence after the break and it was only a terrific Lynton Goss strike which finally confirmed the victory.

The first half started positively for FC as Lamar Simpson hit a shot goalwards within 1st minute. In response Tring mounted an attack and only a James Weatherill block prevented a goal. Lynton Goss tried a cheeky dink over the keeper on six minutes and this was followed by a powerful run and strike by Jeanmal Prosper which was directed straight at the home keeper. Gareth Price was another man to try from distance but his effort flashed over the bar. How FC hadn’t taken the lead was a surprise to all watching from Tring’s delightful old main stand and no effort came as close as Lamar Simpson’s whose measured pass drifted through a crowd of defenders before hitting a post. Lynton Goss and Rob Tomlin both had reasonable efforts before FC inevitably broke the deadlock. A corner from the right was met by Jeanmal Prosper whose low volley gave the keeper no chance.

Simpson certainly looked an attacking threat on the Aylesbury wing and he had the first chance of the second half, hitting a low shot which fizzed past the post. Jamie Rudd and Ken Feyi both had reasonable chances to increase the lead but chances were becoming fewer as Tring came more into the game. The home team had a great opportunity to level the scores on 83 minutes however the chance was skewed wide with Weatherill narrowing the angle. There was just a minute left when the second goal finally arrived. Lynton Goss picked up the ball 30 yards and after a couple of touches, he unleashed a venomous shot which zipped past the keeper and into the back of the net.
