Aylesbury got back to winning ways as they progressed in the Red Insure Cup with an assued victory over The Scholars from Potters Bar

After three defeats in a week it was essential to get back to winning ways in the Red Insure First Round game ahead of the trip to Tooting & Mitcham at the weekend in The Trophy.

James Weatherill, recovered from his arm injury, replaced James Warrington in goal. Ben Stevens, returned from suspension to partner Connor Baker in Midfield. Ricky Baker, back from work commitments started in midfield and Brian Haule replaced Lynton Goss at the head of the attack and it was FC who started the brighter of the two sides. Gareth Price playing on the wing was gave the full backs a torrid time for the whole ninety minutes and in an early attack beat his man on the left and fired in a cross into the six yard box that the keeper managed to turn behind for a corner. Brian Haule was looking lively and holding the ball up well and he also fired over as FC dominated the opening period.

After twenty minuted FC deservedly took the lead when a Haule flick on was met by the onrushing Sonny French who cut inside the defender on the edge of the eighteen yard box and neatly slotted the ball home. French was also causing problem in the heart of The Scolars defence with his mazy dribbling and had another chance shortly after but his shot was well saved. It was 2-0 after half an hour when a corner swung in caused chaos in the penalty box and it was Jeanmal Prosper who was first to pounce and stab the ball home from close range.

Potters Bar pulled one back just before half time when Alex Shepard found the net but Aylesbury never looked in serious trouble and the half ended 1-0

Aylesbury should have extended the lead int he second half with chances from French and a couple from Gareth Price, the best of which followed a glorious cross field pass from Jamie Rudd, into the path of Price who cut inside the defender but fired over. Eiight minutes from the end Manager Steve Bateman gave a debut to young Ty Deacon from the Under 18s side but at that point the game was over and it is Aylesbury who progress to the next round.
