After the defeat at Marlow on Bank Holiday Monday FC entered the "Derby" with United needing to get back to winning ways and would have to do so to extend their stay in the world's oldest cup competition.
Returning to the side were Bradley Wadkins, Daniel Murphy and Kyle Anthony giving the side a lot more experience and they were going to need it as the game ebbed and flowed in a really exciting cup tie.
United started the quicker of the two sides and took the lead after just 4 minutes A Bewley corner was misjudged by FC keeper James Warrington and the ball was cut back into the six yard box for United goal machine Stacey Field to poke the ball home for what was a well deserved lead. It wasn't all United though, ex Duck Aston Goss beat the United defence on the left hand flank and his ball across was just missed by Sean Sonner arriving late into the box. Bradley Wadkins also had a shot charged down but United always looked dangerous.
On 25 minutes FC drew level, Brian Haule flicked the ball onto Aston Goss on the left hand side of the penalty area and his powerful left footed strike beat Jack Sillitoe in the Ducks goal for the equaliser. That seemed to calm the Moles team down, and also the fans behind the goal who were in fine voice along with the home fans in the main stand.
The game was now starting to turn into a real cup tie with efforts at both ends. Bewley had a shot deflected wide from Daniel Murphy and Bradley Wadkins fired over after another Brian Haule flick but the half ended all square.
The injured Murphy was replaced at half time by Ollie Hogg and this move meant that David O'Connor moved to the centre of defence and Connor Baker moved to left back and proved to be significant as with O'Connor now in his favoured position he and Anthony seemed to be able to restrict United's opportunities significantly and allowed Connor Baker on the left of the defence to spend more time attacking than defending. Brian Hale had a close range effort saved but it was United who again took the lead after 68 minutes when Stacey Field again fired the ball home from close range much to the delight of the home fans. The lead though was short lived as Aston Goss, having his best game in an FC shirt, fired a low cross from the left hand side of the box and poacher Sean Sonner was on hand to level the scores.
FC now had their tales up and the vocal away support behind the goal were urging them to find a winner and in the 71st minute they did. A free kick found the head of Aston Goss who fired home to the delight of the supporters who mobbed the players.
Goss should have had a hat trick but a late header was fired just wide but at the final whistle it was Aylesbury FC who were the winners and who will progress to the First Qualifying Round and will entertain Kettering Town.
