With temperatures touching 30oC in the sun the and after just a fortnight of training this was always going to be a difficult afternoon for the players of both sides, but despite this, Amersham Town and FC produced an interesting and entertaining afternoon of football.
As ever with these early games fans were waiting to see who would don the Silver and Purple away kit. Outside the returning players from last season we also saw playing from the start central defender Tom Willment who was captain of the Burnham side that won the Division 1 Central title in 2012/13 and left back Danny Murphy who also won the title last term with Dunstable Town, and it was Willment and Murphy along with Gareth Price, Conner Baker, Bradley Wdkins and Rob Tomlin who all shon in a first half where FC playing a nice on the eye passing game were always comfortable in possession without really threatening the Amersham goal. FC did take the lead though when mid way through the half a move down the left between Aston Goss and Murphy ended with the left back pinging a low cross into the area which was turned in by an Amersham defender and Aylesbury went into the break 1-0 up.
There were a few changes in the second half with ex Fleet midfielder Liam Spuls being introduced and a change in formation from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3. The Moles lost their way a little in the centre of midfield and the hosts came into it more although never really threatening the FC goal. The ever Price was involved int he best move of the game which saw the second goal and killed off the game, he accelerated past a couple of defenders on the left and fired in a low cross which was met by Brian Haule who fired home from close range, 2-0.
With the heat and lack of match practise the game then petered out although the home side did produce an excellent diving save from James Weatherill late on.
All in all a good run out an and excellent test.
