Whilst the first half showed the visitors at their attacking best, the second period allowed Aylesbury to demonstrate their own offensive prowess.
The game was only five minutes old when Dunstable took the lead, a towering header from a lofted cross saw the FC defence in disarray. Eight minutes later and the lead could have been doubled, only an outstretched leg prevented a goal after good Dunstable work on the right. FC had their first chance of the half soon afterwards however the header from David O’Connor was pushed to safety by the keeper. A point blank chance for Dunstable was the next point of interest even though it was steered wide with the goal at the striker’s mercy. Connor Baker had the final chance of note in the half, his stinging shot testing the keeper who struggled to hold the ball so fierce was the power.
The second half was only a few minutes old when FC had their first chance. A clearance from the keeper struck FC striker Brian Haule but the target man failed to capitalise on the opportunity. A Lynton Goss free kick soon afterwards produced another excellent chance. Davis Haule met the kick with a powerful header which the keeper just managed to tip over. It wasn’t all one way traffic and Dunstable had a golden chance with a man in blue heading wide with just keeper James Weatherill to beat. With 18 minutes to go, Dunstable had another chance with the striker hitting the ball wide on the half volley. In reply Aston Goss played in Lynton Goss with Lynton’s speculative effort just clearing the bar. With eight minutes of the game left, FC grabbed the equaliser. An errant back pass was seized upon by Lynton Goss who calmly stroked the ball into a deserted net.
It was no more than Aylesbury deserved and had Danny Burnell managed to poke the ball under the visiting keeper right on the stroke of full time then the team would now be celebrating a win. As it was, a draw was a very satisfying result with the club now looking forward to next Saturday and the visit of Potters Bar.
