After the defeat of Aylesbury United on Bank Holiday Monday, FC returned to action in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. Hopes were high that if they performed in the same way then progression to the next round was a definite possibility, but after 7 minutes the FC fans had heads in hands when Ben Stevens was given a straight red card for a challenge that didn't even appear to warrant a free kick. But the resolve that was shown on Bank holiday was again there for all to see as the whole team rallied and took the fight to Thatcham. On 18 minutes Gareth Price picked the ball up thirty yards out on the left hand side, cut inside and lashed the ball into the top of the net for a well earned lead. For the rest of the half FC took the game to Thatcham who didn't create anything. The midfield dominated the game for FC and the tireless work from Jack Thomson and Davis Haule winning the ball and letting Jerome Federico and Gareth Price attack the Thatcham defence creating a number of other good chances. Full backs Lamar Simpson and Matt Hall got forward at every opportunity, any neutral in the crowd would not have realised the lack of FC numbers.

The second half continued much as the first with FC dominating the game and after 67 minutes a long goal kick found Price on his own, he popped the ball into Sonny French's path who slotted the ball left footed into the net past a diving keeper. FC were then awarded a penalty on 83 minutes when Federico was pulled down in the box. Sonny French was given the ball but his low shot struck the post. With five minutes to go Thatcham pulled one back and then is was backs to the wall as the opposition threw everything at FC as they tried to force an equaliser but it was not to be and The Moles progress though to play Shortwood in the next round.
