Match Report: Jools Thomas
FC’s pre-season continued at Meadow View Park, the impressive new home of Thame United. Once again it gave staff the opportunity to view potential line ups for the new Southern League, the chance for triallists to stake a claim for a place and the occasion for the numerous FC supporters to assess the team's pre-season progress .
Thame had ex-Moles James Faulkner and Lynton Goss in their ranks and it was James who had the first decent chance of the game glancing wide after just a couple of minutes. Thame opened the scoring midway through the first half. A shot from a left wing cross was saved well by Richard Roberts however he was unable to prevent the rebound being poked home. Leon Osei soon equalised however from the spot after an FC man had been tripped whilst almost through on goal. Leon’s confidently stroked shot gave the keeper no chance.
Three minutes into the second half and FC took the lead. Again it was that man Osei who claimed the goal. His delicately lofted free kick floated past defenders and out of the reach of the despairing Thame No 1. On 63 minutes it was the home team’s turn to equalise. A low shot from the edge of the area beat Richard Roberts at his right hand post. On 75 minutes Thame claimed the winner. A right footed cross was met with a sliding strike into the bottom corner of the goal.
The usual substitutions halted the ebb and flow of the game and from there on in, FC’s chance of grabbing an equaliser slipped away and the referee soon ended the game with a deserved win going to the hosts.
