The season kicked off in late July for the 1st Team this season which appeared to catch them off-guard as Arlesey came over and won 5-0. Not the start we wanted.
Next up was Kempston, relegated from step 4, so we knew it would be a challenge. 2-0 down at half time, but Alfie, Bax and Jake banged in 2nd half goals to gain our first points and great away win.
The FA Cup was next and we were drawn away to Step 4 Flackwell Heath. Alfie scored in the 1st half and the boys dug in well to hold that score all the way to the whistle. We were in the hat for the next round.
After a thrashing of Dunstable 5-0, with Bax grabbing a hat-trick, we were back in FA Cup action at home to Step 4 Corsham Town. 1-1 at half time with Jake scoring, 2-1 down, but Alfie and Brownie scoring in the 2nd half to win again!!! The FA Cup run was on…
The FA Vase run however, was not on after a 3-2 loss away at Step 6 Desborough Town in the 1st round. 2 goals from Blaaze not enough to win.
Nearly 350 supporters were at The Greenfleets Stadium for the FA Cup match against Step 3 Bognor Regis Town and Blaaze hit the post inside 20 minutes. 0-0 at half time was a great start. Dynamos did well, but Bognor’s quality eventually showing winning 3-0 in the end.
Dynamos bounced back from the defeat with a sound 2-0 win over FC Romania, Jake and Bax on target.
The cup games kept coming and a tough match away at Abingdon United were the next opponents in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup. Alfie came off the bench to score an injury time winner to put us through.
Jayden then took centre stage as he helped demolish Harpenden, setting up 3 goals and scoring 1 himself.
A couple of tough games against top 3 opposition saw us lose both but could have got something out of both games. MK Irish losing 1-0 and Cockfosters 2-1, but on another day…we could have easily got a couple of draws…at least.
The lads then had 5 cup games in their next 6 matches…!
We continued to march on in the B&B Cup getting a 1-0 away at Newport Pagnell, Aaron with the winning goal.
We were gaining momentum in the Gladwish (League) Trophy and despatched Harpenden with ease 3-1 with Romeo, Blaaze and Alfie all finding the net.
In early November we hosted Step 3 Marlow FC in the B&B Cup and won 2-1 with Brownie and Jacob grabbing the goals.
The Gladwish Trophy was next and new signing, Archie Pettingell was on target, along with an OG to take us to penalties where we won 4-2 and progressed again.
The team were in a rich vein of form and won their next 3 games albeit over a period of 6 weeks as the river water made an appearance.
Brownie and Blaaze scored to beat FC Romania 2-0. Romeo, Blaaze and Harry were on hand to defeat local rivals Winslow just after Christmas, 3-0 on their turf. Harpenden were sick of the sight of us as we defeated them again, 4-2, with Bax grabbing a brace.
The last 16 match in the B&B Cup saw us finally defeated. Binfield managed to grab a 2-1 win at their place to knock us out of the cup.
The teams fortunes changed after this match and they lost their next 6 league games. The only highlight being another win against Winslow in the Gladwish Trophy where Brownie got the winning goal in the Quarter Final in a 1-0 win under the floodlights at The Greenfleets Stadium. Onto the semis…!
This poor run of form in the League effectively put pay to any outside chances of gaining a play-off spot.
The next 9 games were a real mixed bag of results…! Won 3, Drew 3, Lost 3.
Jordan and Max, getting his first goal for the 1st team were on target to defeat Colney Heath.
The Gladwish Trophy Semi-Final saw us up against Top 5 team, London Lions. Abu and Blaaze banged in 2 goals without reply as we comfortably made it through to the Cup Final…a great achievement for the team.
Two days later Batch made some changes and brought in a number of the younger players to play another Top 5 team in Wormley Rovers. Exaucee scored his first of the season, as he was deployed up front, and Owen grabbed his first goal for the 1st team, and the match winner, direct from a corner as they defeated them 2-1.
As Dynamos caught up on matches they Drew 2 and Lost 2 in early April, a particular highlight was Exaucee scoring in the 95th minutes away at Dunstable Town to grab a deserved point.
The final 5 league games saw Batch giving the younger players minutes whilst battling with a number of injuries. The highlight being a 2-1 win away at Potton, with Bax scoring the winner.
The final match was the Gladwish Trophy Final, at Biggleswade, against local rivals and 2nd placed Tring Athletic.
Despite giving it a good go, Tring ran out 2-0 winners on the day.
So, how do you summarise the season…!?
A final position of 12th but that doesn’t tell the whole story. There were a number of long term injuries which disrupted us at a vital part of the season. A couple of superb cup runs…The FA Cup run was great for the club and we saw some good crowds come to cheer us on. A cup final in the Gladwish Trophy which saw Dynamos fans outnumber the opposition…!
Batch also introduced a number of our younger players into the squad. Owen, Max, Dylan and Seth in particular came in and certainly made an impact. The clubs focus is on creating a pathway for these players (and many more) and integrating them into the U23’s and then into the 1st team when they are ready. The future is bright…the future is Dynamos.
Also, our club captain, Terry Griffiths, is expecting a baby in October. Future club player hopefully…!
Finally, on a sad note, we lost Ian Brown in April. Brownie was a regular at the club for over 30 years and he will be greatly missed.
