Chairman's Statement

Chairman's Statement

Admin admin25 Oct 2012 - 14:20

Statement and update from FC Chairman Danny Martone after his meetings this week.

As you all know over the past week I have been meeting with local Councillors and all have been very positive. We have given them our short, medium and long term plans and they have responded positively and constructively. Over the next few weeks we will be putting the finishing touches to our medium and long term business plans and we will then meet with the planners to take their advice before submitting our funding proposals.

The first meeting I had was with our MP David Lidington who has promised to support our cause and has written to the AVDC and Bucks County council and it’s fair to say that he was surprised at the amount of projects being run for our community by the club.

I then met with prominent members of the council in Facilities and Leisure and they outlined to me the truth about the statement printed in the Bucks Herald. David Thompson specified that he was wrongly quoted and that the AVDC did not pledge anything to one single club. In fact the party line is the same as it has always been " Any club with a solid financial and structural plan that will enhance sport in the Vale, will be given due consideration and if it is deemed a fit and proper cause and passes the scrutiny of the finance and planning committees then they may decide to contribute and support". I have had a very positive response from this meeting about what we are doing, the plans we have in place and have been given some valuable advice, talks will be continuing over the coming weeks.

My final meeting was with the very man that brought the proposal forward Councillor Beall. Councillor Beall was more than a little embarrassed and admitted to not being fully informed about a number of matters surrounding the whole issue and apologised several times. After a full tour and a thorough briefing of the situation including the amount of good work we are doing he has also agreed to support our plans.

We have now got to force this home and I know the committee will do all it can to make sure that we are finally given the deserved recognition the club has earned. As always we need your support at whatever age group, I need you now to shout and push all the good that we are doing to everyone you know. Let’s build our own history and put football in Aylesbury back on the highest level possible but let's do it in the right way FOR THE GOOD OF OUR TOWN.

The first team have been playing some fantastic football and have put an 8 game unbeaten run together and have climbed to 11th in the league. For those of us that witnessed Tuesday’s game against high flyers Biggleswade United, we all know that the team are showing a never say die attitude. So I am asking you all to pass the message on to your family, friends and colleagues, young and old, we need you all to stand up and be counted and cement our rightful place as Aylesbury’s number one club.

Danny Martone
