2022 Review

Iain Willcocks28 Dec 2022 - 14:16

A review, month by month, from the club

AVDFC – 2022
So another year passes for Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, and 2022 has certainly had some high points and low points…and a number of challenges along the way. We have of course had our fair share of football matches as well…!

January
We started the year with a few postponed games as the weather defeated us, however, Woody’s U14’ Dynamos made it through to the last 4 of the B&B Youth Cup with a penalty win over Bracknell Town.
On the 22nd Jan Brian Haule and Jake Baldwin scored the goals in an impressive 2-0 win away at Leverstock Green, who were 5th in the Premier table.
Woody’s team again in the news, this time winning the League Cup Final 4-1 against Slough Town.
The club also announced a number of changes (Magnificent 7) with Colin Young, Kevin Woodstock, Toby O’Callaghan and Ryan Collings all joining the committee. Chris Juraszek and Jason Savage were also given exciting new roles in the club to own Youth Development and Girls Football respectively.

February
Not a great month for the 1st team as they played 6 games, drawing 2 and losing 4 in a poor month for results. Scoring 4 goals and conceding 13. That is now no win in 7 games…
The newly formed girls section had their 3rd friendly. Losing out in a close game to Haddenham on 13th Feb.

March
Early March saw Woody’s team make another final, this was the big one, the B&B Cup Final. After a 0-0 draw at full time, the Dynamos lost out 5-4 on penalties…so unlucky.
Finally the 1st team got a win, albeit a 1-0 over MK Irish in the League Cup, Fulton and Griffiths seeing Red as we finished with 9 men.
The Development team were still going strong and beat AFC Hayes Res 3-0 with Marcus Rivers (2) and Prince Nimoh the scorers as they stayed at the top of the table in their first ever season.
The U18’s, under the stewardship of Chris Juraszek and Colin Young managed a fantastic 2-1 win against Kings Langley U18’s, who were the eventual League Winners.
Apart from the cup win, the 1st team lost 4 games in March, scoring 3 and conceding a huge 17 goals including a 4-0 loss to Flackwell, a 4-0 loss to Tring and a 5-0 loss to Risborough Rangers.

April
The 1st team managed a 3-1 win over London Colney, but the next match saw them lose 8-1 in the Dynamos worst ever defeat.
U13’s Colts finished their season in 2nd place. New Manager Mikey Smith had an impressive season with the Colts.
1st team ended their season with a disappointing 4-0 home defeat to Harpenden Town.
Woody’s U14’s Dynamos were at it again, winning another Cup 3-0 against Risborough Rangers.
The Development team were looking to win the League now and a decent 2-0 victory over AFC Hayes gave them a chance.
On 30th April, a victory over Harrow Borough would seal the title. Goals from Marcus Rivers and Prince Nimoh capped an unforgettable day at the club as they won 2-1, ending with 10 men as well. The Management Team of Michael East, Damian Eatwell and David Percival had achieved the unthinkable at the start of the season, winning the Suburban League Div 1. Fantastic season !!

May
As the majority of football was now over, the club was a quieter place. However, despite losing their unbeaten record, Woody’s team secured the League title as well in May for probably the best ever season for a Youth team at the club as Aylesbury Vale Dynamos.
The adult teams held their awards evening at the club with Terry Griffiths, Callum Shortt and Chris Stapleton winning. The Development Team awards went to Prince Nimoh, Marcus Rivers, George Zammit and Harvey Matthews.
The U18’s awards went to Kris Collier, Jude Guest-Brainch and Charlie Hine.
On the 22nd May, Woody’s team completed the hat-trick winning the League. What a season.
The week after the U13’s Athletic team confirmed 2nd place in U13’s Division 1 with Matt Kelloway the Manager. Paul Driscoll’s U13’s Dynamos also finishing mid-table in the same division. A very strong age group..!
The club also held its AGM on the last day of May, with the current Committee committing to another year at the club.

June
With the 22/23 season now already being planned, Steve Bateman dropped a bombshell on the committee by resigning his position with immediate effect.
The Dynamos Girls section launched “Squad Girls” to their line up, enticing older girls to join the club from U11’s – U15’s.
Mike Borrett, Ryan Collings and Colin Young were tasked with bringing in a new Manager and on 12th June the club announced that Michael East and Liam Dwyer would be the new management team.
ADA Fastfix were then announced as the main 1st team sponsor, a great partnership for the club.
Will Dodds also joined the club as Development Team manager for the coming season.

July
Always predominantly filled with friendly matches, this July was no different. The 1st Team had 6 pre-season games but unfortunately failed to win one game, losing out to some decent, higher step teams such as Berkhamsted, AFC Dunstable and Kings Langley. Dynamos scored 2 goals and conceded 17 in these matches…not the ideal preparation…
In other news, Olivia Walker was nominated to deliver the match ball at the Women’s Euro match between Spain and Finland…a fantastic honour and proud moment for the Dynamos Wildcat.

August
However, the 1st match of the season saw Dynamos 1st team sneak a 3-2 win against Baldock Town with Chris Stapleton scoring 2 goals, and Jake Baldwin the 3rd.
The 1st team also won their FA Cup match with Longlevens 3-2 with Jamie Fulton, Chris Stapleton and Abu Khan all scoring.
We were turning into a cup team already as the 1st team lost to Leighton Town and Stotfold before winning the next round of the FA Cup against Bristol Manor Farm.
In the FA Vase we smashed Rushden & Higham 5-1 with Josh Boorn, Man of the Match.

September
Saturday 3rd September Dynamos booked a coach to the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round match away at Yate Town, a Step 3 team. Prince Nimoh was on fire and put Dynamos 2-1 up, but we finally lost out 4-3 in a fantastic game of football.
The U18’s were also in cup action and a superb victory away at Oxford City, 2-1, with Sadibo Camara and Jet Dyer on the scoresheet in the FA Youth Cup.
In mid-September the U18’s faced Swindon Supermarine in the FA Youth Cup and after a pulsating 0-0 draw at full time, they lost out 5-4 on penalties. Great effort against higher opposition.
All matches were postponed for the weekend of 9/10 September due to the passing of the Queen.
Youth football started up for the 22/23 season with 6 girls teams all playing in competitive leagues for the first time ever for Dynamos. A great achievement and kudos to Paul O’Sullivan, Damian Eatwell, Toby O’Callaghan and Jason Savage for making the dream a reality for the club.
The new U7’s, managed by Darren Dimenna, won 3 of their 4 first ever matches as Dynamos. Well done Darren and the new U7’s team. The U8’s matched them with 3 wins in their first weekend.
James Moore’s U16’s Dynamos also got a superb 2-2 draw with last seasons winners, Cookham Dean.
Back with 1st team and George Zammit was the hero in a penalty shoot out victory over MK Irish in the FA Vase as Dynamos were through again.
They also managed to comfortably defeat Winslow United in the B&B Senior Cup, with a 3-1 win.

October
We had the very sad news that Frank Ferdinand, a Manager in the U11’s, had lost his battle against Cancer and had passed away.
The 1st team suffered a bad loss away at Hoddesdon (4-3) after being 2-0 up at half time.
The AVDFC Girls were invited to be mascots at the Watford Women’s match, which they all thoroughly enjoyed.
The 1st team appeared to be in freefall as they lost to Tring Athletic in the FA Vase and then lost at home to Arlesey Town, another poor defeat. Finally losing to Real Bedford from Division 1 in the Gladwish Cup.
Phil Granville’s U14’s Youth team had a decent start to the season and a 6-2 win over Risborough Rangers cementing them as early favourites to win their division.
Martyn Jones U13’s Dynamos and Woody’s U15’s Dynamos both winning cup matches early-October.
The club were saddened by the passing of Andy Stevens, a friend of the club for a long time. His son Ben was Clup Captain as AFC for a number of years and daughter Leanne a regular at Bingo, amongst other events. Sad month for Dynamos.

November
The B&B Senior Cup 2nd round match saw Dynamos suffer a heavy defeat, 6-2. This left the 1st team 18th in Premier Division and out of all Cup competitions.
The next day, the committee agreed to remove Michael East and Liam Dwyer from management duties with immediate effect.
6th November, the new management team was announced with Jordan King and James Green taking over 1st team duties.
Over the next few days, they made a number of exciting additions to the squad, with Dan Lambeth, Charlie Jackson, Charlie Attwell, Jack Empson, Jacob Williamson, Evans Lamboh and Charlie Jones all joining Dynamos.
Their first match saw Dynamos fightback to gain a 3-3 draw at Leverstock Green with Jake Baldwin scoring the first goal under the new management.
November saw 3 league wins against London Colney, Hoddesdon and Cockfosters, scoring 14 goals and conceding only 4 in that period.
In Youth football, Graham Goulding’s U12’s Dynamos defeated Aylesbury Utd 4-0 to kick start their season. Woody’s U15’s Dynamos are still unbeaten in the league, winning a few more games. Stef Ziolkowski’s U12’s Youth remain unbeaten with 5 wins and 1 draw, beating a decent Wendover team 3-0 as well.
Matt Kelloway’s U14’s Athletic are flying high with 10 out of 10 wins this season so far…fantastic start to the season.

December
The 1st team defeated Biggleswade 4-1 at home in a dominant display as they move up to 14th in the table.
In Youth football, Paul Driscoll’s U14’s Dynamos defeated Beaconsfield 5-3 to move up the table.
The majority of matches in December fell foul of the frozen pitches as temperatures hit a low of -12 degrees in Aylesbury.
17th December and the big thaw started…but the club’s pipes cracked and flooded the front entrance. There was more damage and flooded areas found as people checked the entire club. This put pay to any more events or matches at the club during December.

Lets see what 2023 offers the club…
